I would appreciate advice from anybody who has had QF change a flight that was booked during the first status extension offer. I have read the “Cancelling of QF flights due to border closures” thread, but cannot find any mention of status retention offer.

I have a ticketed (booked in March) PER-ADL-PER flight (same day return) with a 4 ½ hour layover, enough time to do a quick catch up & a few bevvys with friends in the airport in 3 weeks’ time.

In the last few days, I received a flight change notification that QF has rebooked my return to an earlier flight leaving me a 45 minute turn around.

I have checked the QF booking page and found the original return flight has been removed from sale.

Rebooking is not going to work as the other parties’ flights don’t line up with a date change.

Am I, in this circumstance, able to invoke an involuntary change and therefore have QF cancel the flight, ask for a refund and still retain my status under the status extension offer?

Not really fussed about a refund, flight credit is OK by me (read excuse to go flying, well, when one can get back unhindered into the “Independent State of McGowanistan”).

Yes. For QF initiated cancellations, your status will still be extended.

If the booking is cancelled, will my status still be extended?
We will extend your status if you’ve made a booking in line with the requirements and Qantas cancels the flight you’ve booked.

If you cancel the booking, you will need to make a new eligible booking before your status end date to qualify for the 12 month extension.
