Interesting reading the reasons for calling off the proposed float of the QFF program. I think one of the reasons for forcing people to decide on direct sweep from Amex was in preparation for the float so that decision may not look so good now.

Also interesting to note are plans for capital expenditure on refreshing Qantas lounges.

Of interest IMHO:

  • they would sell off parts of QF, but not JQ
  • obviously sees more future in JQ not QF
  • trotting out the customers have passion for Australian brand of QF (!!!)
  • no mention of customers, customer service, etc
  • sees JQ as standalone, but refuses to acknowledge infrastructure support of QF
  • the stupidity of even considering a deal with BA (junk stock!)
  • confirms the stupidity of the ptrivate equity deal (accepting the restirctions on financing options)
'fraid for this lowly reader it confirms all of my worst suspicions about the Irish Bonobo

Ok,here's a "pie in the sky" theory that a friend suggested to me over a bottle of red last night.
QF does deal with BA to "hive off" Qantas long haul (For long haul read international) and runs it in a 50/50 partnership with BA taking the Europe-Australia routes and Qantas taking Aus-Pacific.with a third partner (MH?) handling the short Asia services like BKK,SIN etc.
Jetstar handles all Qantas domestic routes ,both in Australia and New Zealand.
Obviously there would be issues like what happens to Qantas lounges etc .
Personally I don't think it would get off the ground and my mate had drunk one too many, but is it that ridiculous really.
(Not saying I like the idea BTW !)
