A German accused of leading a gang of thieves in Australia escaped Interpol officers while waiting for a connecting flight to Germany at Suvarnabhumi airport, authorities confirmed Sunday.


Immigration police and the Airports of Thailand (AoT) will meet Monday to discuss the investigation into the suspect's escape, which took place on May 15.


The suspect, whose identity has been withheld, was arrested and charged in Australia, but managed to escape while being taken back to Germany.

Whoops, methinks there will be some procedural changes to how prisoners are transited through BKK in the near future.

First up, why weren't official in BKK informed, that's a big question. I've never seen it happen in person, but would assume the prisoner would be handcuffed, so it'd be fairly obvious something was up when he arrived to transit. Regardless of whether he was or wasn't wearing handcuffs though, I can't imagine they let him hold his passport, so the fact he left the airport, or alternatively is still hiding in it somewhere, doesn't say much for the officials, whether they knew about him or not.

Let me just point out there there is no such thing as "Australia Interpol Officers".
