How good are the internet speeds at the hotels there? May need to do some work from there when on a trip and thought I would ask the question since it's a developing country...

Not as good as Singapore or South Korea. Much better than China. Didn't think it was too much different to typical speeds I experience in Melbourne. May depend on the hotel, but during Sept was at the Novotel in Yangon and had no problems with internet, nor on phone during trip outside of Yangon the next day.

I haven't been for 5 years, but then the speeds in top-end hotels were good. Wi-fi even being introduced to temples!

So I'm sure dajop is on the money.

I was able to do my TR with lots of photos uploaded even on a boat on the Irrawaddy. That was3 years ago, maybe 4.

Excellent, all very reassuring - here's hoping I have a good 5 days in Rangoon!

Where are you staying?

Undecided. Might go for the Shangri-La since the rate is competitive, although there are a few luxury boutiques in colonial buildings at a much higher price point that are tempting!

I stayed the Sule Shangri-La. Look at the trip report in the Sig area of my post. Pretty well located - and internet was good!
