Due to forum restrictions, I don't think I can comment on this. Yes $80 compared to a $3000 Business Class fare is not much, however for a economy fare of $299 to Bali that would mean a lot to ordinary families.

At the $299 end of the scale it’s more likely the airline will suffer than the family. Fares are driven by supply and demand not cost plus.

At the low end in some instances this will mean an excuse to put fares up $20. Sometimes $10. Sometimes the airline will have to absorb it all.

You could look at it that way...

BUT it also increased by $10 in 2024.
So it's going up $20 in 3 short years (33% increase)

Prior to that it only increased $13 in 16 years (2008-2024)

Compared to all the other costs for a family of four to Bali… visas, tourist levy… this is not much.

LCCs get burnt here and it’s often ancillary charges that gets pushed up over base fares which need to remain low.

Jetstar had $185 Bali fares last week I noted. Take out charges, taxes etc, isn’t much left on a base fare only basis.
