Okay so you are traveling overseas in business class. You have your seat allocation which is fine and not seeking to change it and you are all set.

What then is the benefit of online check-in to you? At the airport you will still have to check-in your bags get them tagged etc and they have to check your passport etc, only difference is that you have an annoying A4 paper boarding pass that you have to print yourself.

Surely it is only really useful if you are in economy and/or seeking to change your seat. The queue at the 'bag drop' often looks just as long as the standard check in counters.

Enhancements like On-Line checkin and Self Bag Checkin are not for your benefit, they are for the airline's benefit.
They have done their sums and figure they can use less staff, thus saving cost - it has zero to do with your convenience.

I've never used OLCI for OS trips for just the reasons you state - can't see any benefit in it for me (though sadly, it's usually not because I'm in J but by virtue of QP membership of SG/WP status).

If on qantas you don't have to print the boarding pass out from OLCI. Just get them to print it for you at the airport.

I figure if you have used OLCI and have your seat allocated to your preference, then it's more of a confirmed seat choice.
In theory you could then have your BP printed out with your seat number on it. Once that's done that seat allocation seems more confirmed to me. I might be wrong, but I guess the airline might still change your seat allocation if absolutely required unless you are definitely checked in. Of course, whether you decide to print the BP or get one on arrival at the airport is up to you.

I have never done OLCI for an international flight and have always had the seat I requested in my booking allocated to me.

I see even less benefit for WP given the general speed and service of the F check in.

I've only be gold for a few flights so I'm in the habit of printing the OLCI BP with DJ to avoid the line up. But now that I have priority checkin, I might give it a shot.

I've used it with CX - which does work at (some) airports and allow you to enter the secure area way before you would be able to if you checked in via kiosk or desk, or do a transfer without having to worry about whether a transfer desk is open.

But have never used it with QF, and can't see the benefit. Perhaps something like the above - but many airports have restrictions like OLCI bp needs to be stamped before you can enter secure zone etc.

I don't bother with OLCI given you still need to go through the formalities anyway.

Never used F check in as I'm always through-checked from CBR.
