Anyone have any experience in doing an international transfer at Jakarta.

I want to book a revenue Qatar flight from CGK to LHR in J, which leaves at 1.10am, i plan to use SQ miles to get me from SYD to CGK. Aiming to get into CGK at like 22.40.

I am guessing Singapore won't check my bags all the way through or will they?

Can anyone share their experiences?

Actually SQ, almost certainly will check your bags through to QR, they can, and from SIN usually do through check bags to most non-LCC's (including QR) on separate itineraries.

As for the current process for transiting have not done that for many years, so will need other to help out on that one. There is info in a thread discussing transiting at Bali suggesting there is a transit desk at Jakarta to approach, who will sort out your QR BP.

SQ has previously checked my bag through from SIN connecting in CGK to QF, even though I was booked on separate tickets...

Not SQ, but a data point on the Jakarta international transfer, in case you can't get SQ to manage it all on your behalf. Just be aware in addition to baggage, you'll need to have a way of checking in to your flight. I don't recall seeing an intl-intl transfer desk at CGK but I'm not sure on that.

I've done QF to WY (Oman Air) and reverse transfers at CGK, on separate bookings. Neither could interline bags or issue boarding passes on the other's behalf, so the transfer involved collecting checked luggage, passing immigration to enter Indonesia, and checking in again landside as if beginning the journey in CGK. The whole process takes about an hour, from deplaning to back at the departure gate.

IME, CGK immigration were fine with granting entry for a transfer on an Australian passport but be prepared with hard copy evidence of your booked onward travel out of Indonesia (I needed to produce this). You'd of course also need to have the necessary permissions on your travel documents to enter Indonesia.

Ok, not too bad, I would have 2h30mins to make that connection, assuming all is well with the flights and not delayed...hmmm maybe I need a bit more time.

Whilst I don’t doubt the reports above of SQ possibly tagging your bags through, I don’t think you can plan for that. Your transit point for the unrelated tickets is not SIN, so that’s likely to count against it happening.

You would need to plan for:
- any delay on your SYD-SIN flight.
- any delay on your SIN-CGK flight.
- any luggage delay at CGK. I use the airport regularly and 40 minutes waiting for bags is not unusual. I often have priority tags on my bags and it appears to make no difference.
- Getting a visa on arrival (USD30) if you’re entering the country.
- Any delay with immigration queues.
- Checking in before the closing time, not the time until departure. You don’t have 2:30 between flights as QR check in probably closes 40mins before departure.

More so because you’re then connecting to a paid J flight. If everything goes well, you’ll be fine, but I’m smelling a whole lot of IF coming off that plan.

I’d plan a 6 hour connection MINIMUM. Potentially even give yourself a day and find something to do in Jakarta as your insurance period: it’ll be a hell of a lot cheaper than missing your QR J flights.

If the op needs to go landside, does that mean all passengers will need to get a visa on arrival at IDR500,000 each?

My last CGK transits were in 2018-19. At that time there was a free transit-without-visa policy, which granted a 24-hour entry to Indonesia with proof of onward international travel in that time period.

This now looks to have been discontinued and the IDR500,000 visa seems to be the standard for tourism and transit, unless remaining airside.

I think this is definitely the case, was watching a YT video of Noel Phillips and I know he was staying overnight but he had to pay for the Visa on arrival.

He stayed at the Swiss hotel, I did consider doing that as well

Decided to swerve this, am flying SQ PE to LHR and then used points to book my rtn in mixture of F and J Class on EK and SQ respectively
