Inspire Me [What to do in/out of Singapore for a week?]

I'm headed to SIN in June for a 1 week holiday - only one I'll get til January 2012! Flying JQ there, QF on the way back (which is a whole other story - booked my QF 27/4/11 in the morning to make sure I got the sale prices, then of course JQ announced *Class sale a couple of hours later - arrrrrrrgggggh! On the bright side, I've got 80A in the a380).

Anyway, I've sort of "been there, done that" in SIN, so only want to spend maybe 2 days there (didn't get to the night safari previously). I've also pretty much done all of SE asia really (except PNG and indonesia) but don't mind going back to most places.

So what am I after? Relaxation mainly. Wouldn't mind a couple of nights in starwood properties to help maintain gold, and qualify for their current promo. But above all, a bargain Since I don't really mind where I go, I normally find something cheap / good value ... but am torn this time.

Things I'm considering
Boat to Bintan (never been, but no starwood)
Koh Samui or BKK (never been, but longer flight)
Flight to coughet (been, but seems like some cheap prices around now)
Flights to Sabah (been, but enjoyed)
Flights to Sarawak (spent months there, but cheap starwood)
Train to Melacca (been, but not for long)

But nothing is massively inspiring me. Any thoughts on these? Or indeed, other places? Would prefer flights <3-4hrs just because it's not a long holiday, but will go anywhere if the price is right!

What about Langkawi, three (soon to be 4 in Sept) Starwood properties and some of the cheapest alcohol on the planet, since the whole island is duty free.

The AUD$179 rate at the Westin is good value as you can walk into town easily and have a range of dining options, if you want relax by the pool the Sheraton is old but good value at $100, just poorly located away from most attractions which are cheap enough to get to in a taxi.

I'll be transiting for a total of 10 hours in SIN next month. I'm considering a trip to see the Speaker's Corner in Hong Lim Park. Interested to see how the concept travels in a country like Singapore. Might be worth a day out?

I'm heading to Langkawi next week for a couple of nights. Some good night rates at the Sheraton but look closely at packaged rates on their home websites as sometimes inclusive of breakfast, dinners, massages, transfers etc can make the rate quite a steal.

I'm not yet booked in any, but Sheraton will likely get my stay given it's 1000MYR (~$300AUD)for 2 nights inclusive of daily breakfast and one set dinner per stay. Works out well for me as I get in late the first evening anyway [I do know location isn't great but I'm happy to laze by the pool or beach all day]

Also I'm flying SYD-SIN 16 June so if you're on that flight give me a yell

Tioman island

about 1 hr from SIngapore on a Dash flown by Berjaya Air (not from Changi, from the other airport)

no Starwood but a real paradise and still relatively unspoilt

Been to Langkawi and Tioman before, but not much time in either ... so both good options! I had considered Penang or Langkawi but obviously forgotten again. Will research that. Reasonable connections to both too.

So close alanslegal! 16th for me. Pity, would've loved to have seen this mythical F lounge you WPs all talk about Maybe for the best ... or I could see myself getting addicted and doing MRs to get to WP

Nope I just had a dumb day - am actually leaving BNE the 12th, SIN the 18th I just had 16th on the brain obviously!

Thanks for all the good ideas - I'm using most of them for my September holiday with hubby instead We'll do Tioman and Langkawi then.

I decided just to duck over to coughet for a couple days because the flights worked out well, do a couple of SPG stays then fly back to KL then get train through Melacca and back onto SIN
