ING Bank Dropping 5 ATM Operator Fee Rebate Benefit from 1/8/23

I found out just looking at my account.
I only found out that my ANZ card had been compromised by looking at two transactions that had been approved but which were rapidly increasing while I was on hold with ANZ trying to let them know. All done locally in SA! Bunnings. JBHifi etc etc. By the time they answered around $8000 all up. Oh don't worry ANZ said, you won't have to pay for those. NSSherlock.

Does ANZ have a “Temporary block” button in App?

Everyone should familiarise themselves with their app features like an aircraft safety card!

Yes but that wouldn't have fixed the $4500 already spent on it. They'd already been 'approved'. Yes, it does have that feature. I'll at least do that if there's ever a next time heaven forbid.

Yeah, it was in the context of that horrifying situation of seeing transactions appearing but that button should stop them in their tracks like a seatbelt secured low and tight.

Frankly, you shouldn't be surprised if your CC or DC has fraudulent activity. Fraudsters use many different tricks to commit such fraud and it's an uphill battle for banks to protect their customers. I had a fraudulent debit from my CBA bank account a few years back and needed to inform CBA about it, from my understanding it was a fraudster that used a CC number generator.

So always check your accounts and setup alerts. This is the world we live in now, be alarmed and alert.

Also just on ING dropping 5x free international ATM withdraws. To my surprise whilst traveling in Taiwan last year in November I still managed to receive 5x free ATM withdraws e.g. transaction fee and ATM fee rebated. I found this odd as the 5x free withdraw promotion finished a few months prior...

You can still make 5x ATM withdrawals* free of ING fees per month (they will rebate their own $5 fee if you meet the monthly criteria in the preceding month).

But the local ATM operator fee rebate was axed. Did you see two rebates per cash withdrawal or just one?

*note: there’s no limit on fee free debit card transactions.

Ah, I see, just the one rebate. Thanks for the clarification.

It’s still a useful card if you’re happy to do the monthly hoops and jumps - which I do for the bonus interest.

Alas, very few ways to get around the local ATM operator fees now 😔.
