Infants in premium cabins

I'll be traveling JQ to HNL with an infant. She is charged $40 each way, no taxes. My Son traveling as a child and his base fare is the same as mine but with less tax on the SYN-HNL leg but is the same on the return flight.

Just a quick tip for parents...

When ours were little we would pack multiple new toys for the trip. Like one 'thing' an hour. Sure, having tried and true toys are good, but a "brand new, never before seen" toy has astonishing, magic 'quiet power'.

Pull one out when things get testy or fidgety...

I travel form MEL to LAX every 12-18 months or so to see my wife's family and we've taken our daughter once (she was 8 and 10 months at the time) and I was stressed the entire flight. She was fine though, slept more than we imagined possible. Before reading this thread I wouldn't have entertained the idea of taking kids in anything but Y, but now I would definitely consider it. Definitely seen way worse adult passengers on flights before. Next trip is June next year and she'll be 2yo and I think this will be way harder to keep her entertained over a baby who just eats and sleeps

Back in August when we were travelling through USA on one of the legs, I noticed diagonally opposite us an older couple (assumed grand parents) with a noisey child that was obliviously annoying quite a few people by the looks they were getting. The only way they kept her quiet was to let her walk around the cabin but as soon as she nearly tripped up a FA the older couple got a talking to and unfortunately the screaming started again. As far as I could tell they didn't try to keep her quiet. Didn't bother me too much, I had my noise cancelling earphones on at high volume. Luckily it was a short flight.

Traveled from Melbourne to Europe return in J with a 14-month old a couple of months ago. Even in J it was fairly hard work for us - she's active and too big to fit in the bassinet. But there was no crying and she had no impact on the other pax.

It was funny to see the other pax look at us with trepidation on boarding and then actually forgetting there was an infant in the cabin when it came time to disembark.

The EK staff on board were incredibly helpful, QF staff not so much.

Same here! Funnily enough, i often find the dirty looks are from younger passengers rather than the older ones.

The SQ staff are always keen to interact and look after my son (who is 20 months). I have generally found them pretty good and have flown with them at least 10 times with my son.

I'm one of those younger passengers, and have absolutely no issues with kids in J or F. I'd be booking every single flight in a premium cabin if I had a child in tow.

I can't imagine fellow pax are most hard done by in these situations. I'm yet to meet a parent who takes pleasure in keeping everyone awake with their crying child.

IMHO you need to do more premium flight in cabins with obnoxious children. Or should I say obnoxious parents. Unfortunately it's very common that parents/guardians fail to control their children. Not always. There are also responsible parents, more the rule but not always.

Done a few – can't say I've ever heard them with earplugs/noise-cancelling headphones in, in the surrounds of an SQ J cocoon.

This is the first thing my wife planned out when we flew to Europe with our little one. We put away some new toys in a small bag for her specifically for the plane. That and stickers. Oh man, stickers get great mileage (pun intended) for very little cost.

We were lucky enough to fly J to SIN with EK while she was 6 months old. EK staff were great! Onwards to Europe with QR in Y as well as a trip to Hawaii with JQ in Y and having a new toy to pull out definitely kept her occupied.

Agggghhh. Very jealous. My Jnr burgers joined QF through Everyday Rewards and seemed to have missed out.

As a sometimes premium cabin flyer (depends who is paying!) I encourage and enjoy little ones up the front. Yes of course they cry or scream, they are kiddies.

Maybe sleep apnoea and other snoring pax should not be in the premium cabin.

Unfortunately there is a power outlet for CPAP machines in the emerald city on the 380 row 11!

And unfortunately obese pax who mostly also snore now more than ever are having to pay for premium cabin access due to inability to fit into smaller Y- seats

Lets include those who have bad body odour, those who chuck a tantrum including big kids, certain minority groups, anyone who lives in certain non desirable postcodes, people with hair braids with strange misspelt hyphenated names - easy as they think QF Y is a premium cabin, non beautiful people who dont look like Miranda kerr including people who look bad in the QF pyjamas, Nicole Kidman as she advertises for Etihad, John Travolta - jees fly your own plane!, anyone wearing a burka as that is not QF pyjamas, Sir Les Patterson, politicians who wear blue ties, extreme left wing ABC journalists, extreme right wing Murdoch press, Greenies as they should be walking instead of burning jet fuel, ISIS, ALqaeda

We must rename Business class to "Selfish , Uncaring, Narcisisstic, Horrible Parent" Class.

Business travellers and others who pay the extra coin for comfort and peace and quiet can simply just go and get stuffed.

Problem solved, welcome to modern Australia.
