But I had more to see and I was behind schedule so off to the backstreets towards India Gate.

IMG_6127.jpg

IMG_6128.jpg

IMG_6131.jpg

Then to a park I wanted to see. commissioned by Governor Sir Bartle Frere known to Queenslanders.
IMG_6132.jpg

IMG_6135.jpg

IMG_6136.jpg

Then a more salubrious area of Mumbai.
IMG_6137.jpg

IMG_6138.jpg

IMG_6139.jpg

And another stop for me the Lion gate Fort.
IMG_6140.jpg

IMG_6141.jpg

IMG_6142.jpg

Then past the naval dockyards.
IMG_6143.jpg

And Police Headquarters.
IMG_6144.jpg

Then as I walked past this building and turned into the road to India Gate I did what all of us do in a country with over a billion population. Literally walked into @SYD and had a nice chat. I had wanted to meet him since we began staying at Bondi Junction. Felt there was a chance of seeing him in Bondi. But Mumbai - hell no.

IMG_6147.jpg

I was now running really behind time s but quite a crowd there.
o just a quick view of India Gate and a Photo.
IMG_6148.jpg

IMG_6149.jpg

Now to head back to the IC.
IMG_6150.jpg

IMG_6151.jpg

IMG_6152.jpg

IMG_6153.jpg

IMG_6154.jpg

Then past the Maidan again. Friday and all you could see was cricketers.

That was ever so funny. I had a premonition I would bump into you and there you were!

“Dr Ron, I presume?” as you came around the corner.

You probably did stand out a little more in Mumbai than had you been wandering down Bondi Junction mall! 😁

I thought that the Police Headquarters building had a 'nautical' look in your photo so I had a look at its history. The nautical theme was intentional as it was built as the Royal Alfred Sailors' Home and completed in 1876. It was designed as - "a recuperation centre for sick European sailors, and provided accommodation for 20 officers and about 100 seamen. After 1928, it served as the Bombay Presidency Legislative Assembly and then the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan until 1982, when the Maharashtra Police moved into the building."

We were scratching our heads the first time we passed it. There’s a plinth with the start of the Indian constitution outside. Thought it might be a court or school. No, cop shop.

Thanks . I just like going out for a walk. Sometimes aiming for a particular place but mainly random to get a feel of what makes the place tick.
And sometimes you get rewarded with an unexpected gem.

I’m the same. You gain so much by just “being present” and observing the everyday. With current technology and information sources you can find out and experience aspects of tourist features without even being there, but the back streets and byways have the real essence of a place.

Mrsdrron had an Indian Sav Blanc. She liked it and half the price of the cheapest imported one.

I though went for n imported red. I wanted to try this German Dornflder. I thought it extremely good and slightly seet. fuller bodied thn I thought it to be and an unmistakable bouquet of cherries. Excellent with Indian food.

We both enjoyed it and thanked the staff. They wanted a photo of us. That cost them taking one with my phone

We were also given present of an inlaid marble jewellery box. Just as well Mrsdrron made no purchase at the craft place earlier that day.
That food looks great, the calorie counts are scary though

Fortunately the direct way back to the IC was following the Maidan.

Some lovely British era buildings on the other side and the new building is the High Court.
Now something that annoyed me. There was a subway under a main road that led into the Churchgate train station. Now it's much better if I can use a hand rail going up or down stairs. These guys made it nearly impossible.
IMG_6159.jpg

As I got back to the IC the sun was setting.

The sunset viewing is extremely popular. for sunset the army takes over and sets up barricades limiting the crossing points over the bayside road and they then direct traffic. The only way to get vehicles to stop at a pedestrian crossing.

Then back to the IC to the everyday restaurant. They had a special lamb biryani curry. It took them 3 goes to get the order right. First a dish of biryani rice. They ended up giving me heaps of extras.

Mrsdrron had the mushroom risotto. One glaring problem - only 4 minute bits of mushroom.
IMG_6163.jpg

We complained and they gave us complimentary desserts.
IMG_6170.jpg

They also got the Assistant F&B Manager to see us. I unashamedly took advantage. People say you should have drinks and eat at the rooftop bar at sunset. I hadn't been able to get a booking so I asked him for one and it was granted.
