I notice from the Qantas website their fleet of 744s and A333s feature in seat power in J (and I assume F). This accepts a standard Australian plug. However, the power in BA WT+ is Empower and requires an adaptor for Australian plugs. Does anybody have any recommendations as to which adaptor to purchase and where from to use on BA flights, and also on AA flights (in their selected seats)?

I have just used the Targus power adapter in the past and had no problems.
Not endorsing it as the best, just an option.

Until recently I was using a Targus adapter that I bought in the US. This meant that to get power inflight I needed my existing laptop power pack, international (Oz-US) adapter and the targus adapter. Admittedly the int'l adapter isnt necessary if you buy here but you still are using two power packs.

I have just ordered a kensington power pack which is bascially a slimline power pack that has adapters for empower and AA seats. At $210 its a little steep (mind you I only paid about $180 for it) but it will make life a lot easier.

I bought mine from here but I might have bougth the last one. Its also available here.

It can be worth asking the flight crew. I was on a BA flight recently from DXB to LHR in F, wanted to run my laptop, and couldn't use the Empower socket as I only had my Australian power supply.

I explained the situation to the crew and asked if they had an Empower adaptor I could buy. Instead, they found an inverter that plugged into the Empower socket and gave out 240v that plugged straight into my Samsung power supply. Worked perfectly.

Now all we need is in-flight wifi (and no doubt that's on the way).

My understanding is that BA do have a couple of adapters available to be borrowed in First , however if further back down in Business or World Traveller Plus you need to have you own with you or make a purchase from the "Shopping the World" catalogue

I have a Targus adapter I use with my IBM Thinkpad T41, that I purchased second hand from another AFF member. When I purchased a new Dell D820 I ordered it with the Dell travel adapter. Both of these have Empower connectors as well as 12V cigarette lighter connectors.

The Qantas in-seat power is easiest since it is 110V 60Hz and a universal socket that accepts Aus, US and European plugs (not sure about UK), and most travel devices will operate from that power without adapters.

Note that when you plug in an Australian plug, you have to rotate the plug after inserting it. In some cases I have found the connection is poor and sometimes does not operate reliably. In those cases, I have found that using a USA adapter on my Aus plug has made a much more reliable connection.
