Has anyone has much experience missing flights in the US? I missed a flight one time on AA in 2019 and they moved me onto the next one on standby no questions asked/pleading from me. This was Qantas points booked flight. I'm looking at booking SYD-DFW as economy classic reward but then can't add my DFW-BOS on the same itinerary which means my bags won't be checked through and if the flight is delayed then it's on me

What are other’s experiences? Likelihood of them doing this again these days of a flight is missed? Did the fact that it was a points flight matter? Or is there any other obvious option I'm missing here to make this work (Don't want to book a long layover just to make this work).

QF will check your bags through because you’re on an award flight. Which saves rechecking, but you need to collect your bags anyway and drop them at the transfer.

If you did miss the connection, AA should rebook but you’re at their mercy. If you have OW status - that helps a lot.

If you were on one booking and QF is late, QF are required to rebook - usually before you even land if they know in advance.

The AA policy indicates while they won’t check your bag, they will provide assistance for IROPS (which would include missed connections).
