Wow, very unhappy.
I was in the middle of booking KIX-HKG-MEL-HKG-KIX in August and the fares are gone ! the actual fare rule is gone from what i can see, still availability in the fare bucket (H & M class) but not fares.
Now all is available is fares booked in B & Y.

I hope they come back tonight or something. Maybe i can use a LAS13 as something as a substitute for a better price.

All my QF flights were booked and hotels also (non refundable of course, just my luck)

Any travel guru's know what happened to the CX fares ?

Great idea, almost no L class on any route, and 240k yen base fare is not a bargin. :(

Well i rang CX also to see what they may offer... they came back with a $6k+ for whY !!! i told them i would fly J for that much. (Actually its not me flying these flights, i only share QF29)

Anyway i managed to book a discount JQ flight KIX-CNS-MEL one way and a full whY on QF & CX on the way back MEL-HKG(stop)-KIX, worked out more expensive but not so much so. A reasonable solution.

Requested upgrades on QF29 MEL-HKG as well so lets hope that comes though. Availability is wide open at the moment on that flight.

As everybody always says, if you see a fare book it ! (pity i was in process and in a 20 minute window it was gone)

'tis annoying to go through theprocess and right at the end get told that the booking can't be confirmed

Cathay fares on their site seem to be going up and up. I love flying them, but find it very hard to find reasonable fares with them.

Even simple Australia-HKG itins just don't price competitively on either their site, or the online travel agents.

They must be making some money out of someone!

I had though work a CX flight SIN-HKG-PVG return and it priced out at something like $3200, the corp discount turned out to be around $900 in E class.

CX on the SIN-HKG route is always full price it seems even though the planes leave often very empty. But they must be making money.

I am not sure if it the Japanese Obon (sp?) holidays or the olymics or something else but a lot of these reasonable fares in August have just gone.

Anyway as long as i can book all i need to book i will be happy :)

Interestingly enough, the CX website allows you to book a full economy (Y) fare. The QF website does not - the best you will do is a H fare. Fares seem to be roughly equivalent.

Are there any benefits in flying CX (Y) as opposed to QF (H)? The only one I can think of is that SCs are double. Negative would be that as a QFF you cannot request a points upgrade!

Be nice if one world went the way of Star Alliance and allowed upgrades across members in the program.

Full Y has almost no restrictions. Its always the last of a class to sell so if there is a single Y seat left on a flight it will be in the Y bucket.

The QF fare if booked MEL-HKG-KIX was full Y in both QF and CX. Not cheap but atleast the J upgrade MEL-HKG is only 25k points if it comes through.

If your QFF program as you mentioned probably better buying the QF ticket for reasons of upgrades, unless you need the SC's to make gold/platinum.

I can only ever find B and Y classes on their website. Most of the time I do not even bother to look at the CX website but ask a TA for a quote.

CX still has some good promotions but you need to be in the right place at the right time.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

But as they say always look on the bright side of life !

Well i my AONE5 is ticketed. Until tonight all but of my positioning flights are sorted without too much expense (A little more than planned but ok), then i happen just to check SQ for award flights SIN-JNB instead of a paid one... and what do you know, booked ! 1 day ealier than i wanted but SGD $179 in taxes to South Africa is a bargin :)
