I'll try to brief ...
'Flights close 40 mins ...'
I got to the kiosk at 45 mins, and it locked me out. No checked luggage.
Cost additional $75. to get next flight.

Overnight trips ...
Too bloody uncomfortable. Inconsiderate people fully reclining in front of you. Kids crying ...
People waking you for the toilet every 30 mins. !!

On a Brisbane to Melbourne trip today, my QANTAS Money debit card was rejected for a $12. drink. If fact, their hand-held devices don't want to accept ANY debit or pre-paid cards !!

All up ... I'm done with JEST-STAR !!

Check in online?
My flight said 'ineligible'.

Turned out, it was because I started a booking for food/drinks post ticket purchase ... then decided not to proceed.
I assumed, it would just 'drop off' after 48 hours or so .... but it stayed for two months, and staff say, this was Why I couldn't check in online !!

You got the spelling wrong. It's No-Star👍
You forgot to mention they have a terrible delays and cancellation record.👍

There is the online checkin option but there seemed to be a glitch in your booking
And yes debit cards not accepted on board

Kids and people walking is on every flight, however the check in and buying a drink is enough. Only ever flown them twice and one of those I had an abysmal check in experience in Adelaide.

I'm curious how this is a Jetstar specific issue, yes the system locked you out but I've also had QF and VA flights over the years where online/mobile check in hasn't worked and I've made the point to arrive at the airport a tad earlier to sort issues. I think that's on you for cutting it so fine and I'd hardly call it a Jetstar specific issue.

Your Qantas Money card isn't a debit card. It's a prepaid card and there is a huge difference.

Jetstar do accept both Visa and Mastercard debit cards but these are the type of debit cards that are attached to a bank account. Your Qantas money card being a prepaid card isn't attached to an account and is instead reloaded and can't go into a negative. This is part of the reason why both Jetstar (and Virgin) accept debit cards but not credit (edit typo prepaid) cards because the payment system used isn't connected to the internet therefore they have no way of checking if your prepaid card actually has sufficient funds.

Here is a screenshot of the Jetstar menu on their website:

Qantas money on their website clearly state it's a prepaid card:

Virgin have a similar statement to Jetstar about onboard purchases:

and whilst we're on it Air New Zealand also have the same policy for snacks on trans tasman flights.

If the debit card thing is a 'known', then none of the cabin staff knew that on my flight, they all gathered around, like I was having a medical emergency, trying to get my card to register.
Why didn't the Cabin Manager know, that the QANTAS Money card doesn't work on DEATHSTAR ??

QANTAS Money debit card has a BSB account attached.
It is a product of Heritage Bank, with an Australian banking licence etc.
"Go into negative ... ?"
Not an issue. I know, there was hundreds available on the card.
Of course, if there was nobfunds available, I wouldn't be jumping up and down.
Silly thing to say, really ....

This is the current Qantas Money PDS and no where is it mentioned that it's a debit card:

It is a product of Heritage Bank, with an Australian banking licence etc.
Also not quite true, it's a product of Qantas issued by Heritage Bank and there is a big difference between issuer and who's product it is.

Either way, if the excuse was based on ... 'no account linked', then that is wrong.
I get my pay directly deposited to this account, via a BSB account number.

What the issue really is, that DEATHSTAR have failed to upgrade their payment system to accommodate 3DS 2.0 ( I think that's what it is .... the type of financial product security system that almost every reasonable sized organisation use ... )

Yes good pick up on my typo

I'm not here nor qualified to give financial advice and we've got really off topic here but I'll leave this here (Page 10 of 40 on the PDS). Personally I'd be a little concerned paying my wage into a non government guaranteed account:

Jetstar, Virgin, Air New Zealand (and basically every other airline that takes onboard payments) make these transactions as an "offline transaction", 3DS is a system that connects back to the banks server via the internet when making a transaction and this is physically impossible during an offline transaction.

Yes, it is heading off on it's own thread topic ....
Never had any issue of funds going missing with this card, but I will take note of what you point out. Wasn't aware of that 'fine print' ...

I actually take that to mean .... CARDS only, no cash.

Not a distinction between 'credit cards' and 'debit cards'.

After all, we are generally talking Mastercard or Visa. The issuing bank or other institution shouldn't matter, nor should 'credit or debit'.

Mastercard and Visa .....

Why is it inconsiderate to recline on an overnight flight?
Kids crying? it happens. Wear earplugs.
If you sit on the aisle letting people out to go to the toilet is part of the deal. As for going every 30 minutes, well it happens, you need to go with the flow as it were.

Lots of good info there @henrus and you’ve explained to the OP exactly why that type of card isn’t accepted. I guess the rant effect is stopping that message getting through.

We all know JQ is mostly rubbish, but, like all LCCs they have their place.
