Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing some Hertz points coming up and it says American accounts only. If I open up an American account can I then use those for purchases in Australia? ie is the Hertz Gold Plus program worldwide for redemption?

I remember hearing that Hertz US and Hertz International were two separate companies so wasn't sure.

Cheers,
Paul

The answer is yes, are you thinking of purchasing under the US Amex Daily Getways promo? Not strictly kosher but you can change an address from a US address to an Australian one.

Hi Burmans,

Yes that's exactly what I was thinking of doing. A one week specialty vehicle rental is 5000 points at 280 USD and I was thinking of renting a 4wd for a week in Queenstown during ski season where prices are at about 110 per day.

Will need to confirm availability first and also if the taxes are exorbitant but potential to be a decent saving. I have Hertz Gold here but not sure if status would give me much of anything in this case anyway.

Cheers,
Paul

Its not hard to work out the taxes, with a redemption its everything but the base rate, that means location surcharge, rego recovery etc.
