If I had a friend who wanted a million points and has money and credit cards but no business what would you suggest? He wants to run up points more cheaply than buying outright discount business flights to Europe.

Now I know the Ansett one wont work unless the undertakers have to refund their fees.
Stephen65 yes it is a point and a half card as a million points is such a big ask so getting points at one per dollar or worse half per dollar would be too painful.
I thought that sub $12,500 would be a bargain but seeing no rules should be broken I think that may rule Qantas out as only relatives can use those points.

See if a friend will let them pay a tax bill on behalf of the friend.?

Perhaps we need to find a taxpayer who is too old to travel but not too old to have to pay taxes and put a credit card into the payment system.

With SQ a clear winner on front of plane points use I think a visit to an accountants office will uncover someone who is still paying taxes by cash rather than credit card and doesn't want to fly.
With a million SQ points a friend could comp 3 or 4 others as nominees for the points use.

This is not a bad idea at all. The ATO will accept a payment from a third party on behalf of a taxpayer but you would have to make sure it would work on the portal.

You wouldn't get a tax deduction on the surcharge for paying someone else's tax of course.

yes good idea.

What is the commercial value of a million points Cove?

QF disallows selling as you have to be a relative.Others allow nominees so that makes redemptions possible but probably not a straight sale due to the rule book. What I thought was to pay someone's taxes quickly using a bank branded Amex card so they become my friends points. So Spruce how much is an up the front of the plane trip worth to you?If it involves a rule breach then it should not happen.

Tried out 2 places today and got one maybe and one no. Who was it who said "life wasn't meant to be easy"? I hope it was a politician we dumped.
I will try a business associate tomorrow as I know I am getting warmer with the way to do this.

So what would be the sums for doing this? What is the surcharge per $ for paying tax with your credit card??? Would it work out a better deal than just paying for the 100,000 points with the 2 for 1 bonus that US Airways are running at the moment??? Depends how many of these 1 million points he wanted to use all at once or whether he might have to build them up over a couple of offers and how long would that take, but if its for several people they could each buy points i the current offer...

Unfortunately i don't know any busineses that would allow me to pay their taxes on my card, so might have to stay with US Airways for now...

Typically that is 0.65 cents on point a dollar Visa/MasterCard and 0.833 on a point and a half Amex.
It could be a little better on two Citi cards that pay a bit more than a point a dollar.
