Hello, I am booked in Ibis Hobart over the new year at an eye watering $320 per night rate. Given the previous threads for this property are closed, I wanted to check what recent experiences people have had. Given the range of quality at Ibis, I was considering going with a non-ALL property if others aren't too impressed.

Thanks!

Similar to ksthommo, I also stayed there a couple of nights at the end of March. It's not too bad, it's located maybe a 10 minute walk from the pier in central Hobart. If you are an Accor Platinum you'll get free breakfast at the restaurant which is your usual ibis style buffet - nothing to complain about but certainly not the best breakfast you'll find staying at an Accor property. I have also stayed at the Movenpick Hobart and if available (and in price range) would recommend booking that, particularly if you have Platinum status as the breakfast is a-la carte, the rooms are much nicer, it is located right in the CBD. I've got reviews of both properties here.

One thing to consider would be looking at Accor+ which is Accor's paid membership program that provides discounts on properties throughout Asia Pacific. Sometimes these discounts can be quite substantial (as much as 50% off). For instance, right now they have the Movenpick Hobart starting from $377.10 for 2 nights (i.e. $188.55/night) and that rate includes breakfast, a nightly drink, guaranteed 12 PM checkout. If you could provide dates, I can show you what the Accor+ rate looks like.

Given the range of quality at Ibis,

I haven't stayed since covid, but when I did I thought it was definitely an 'up market' Ibis Styles. Parking is limited.

Its on the main drag of Hobart, intense morning noise, so if noise is an issue, as for the other side.

The rate you got would be about right for the New year period; city is chokkers then. Sydney Hobart crews and hangers-on in town, as well as usual tourist influx for the Taste of Summer food & wine festival on the docks.

One other point to consider is looking at other hotels in the area that aren't Accor. I know this might be heresy on this forum, but sometimes I won't stay at an Accor property here in Australia despite me having Accor+Platinum status, if the price isn't right. Check your Expedia and see what the hotel availability looks like. If you hold points in other hotel programs, now is a good time to check to see what an award stay will set you back. For instance, the Crowne Plaza Hobart has a rate of $550/night during that time. If I use my IHG points that'll set me back 59,000 points/night (which works out to $450/night given how much I bought said points for). It's also crucial to book these things many months out, for this exact reason. For instance, I stayed at the AC Hotel Times Square in New York on New Years eve. That booking was made in June using points (35,000 per night), which represented substantial savings over the $1000/night rate I was seeing at the time. Now you can say what you want about Hobart, but I can assure you Hobart hotels are not in as high demand as those in New York during the New Year's.

Hope that provides some insight.
