I flew home on Saturday 31/7 from LST.The plan was on Sunday 8/8 we would go on a driving trip.A while ago that plan was to go to NSW.That got axed.
Well I figured the only safe way was another QLD road trip. What could go wrong?Well whilst waiting for the plane at LST I found out.The virus had interupted our plans and SEQ was in lockdown which naturally got extended to 8/7.Only came off at 4pm.But our plan was to be in Airlie Beach on Monday night for the early launch to Hayman Island for mrsdrron's birthday. Her birthday is actually the week later but when booking there were only 2 nights in august I could get a points stay so that is what I booked. Now when younger it would be no problem driving from the Sunshine coast to Airlie Beach in 1 day but those days are just a dim memory.

We cancelled that trip. But I thought well if we had to cancel and NSW and Victoria are in lockdown then maybe things have opened up on Hayman. They had Indeed so it is now a 3 night stay on points.I had bought the points with a hefty bonus. So 3 nights on points was still less than 1 night's paid stay. But we couldn't let the virus in on our plans. So all the bookings were made last night and this morning. To make it a little more disappointing today we had award bookings on SQ to fly BNE-SIN-BKK-SIN-BNE.Those bookings have been changed until next year though the BKK sectors just cancelled.

So tomorrow we drive out to Roma.Saturday night in Emerald and Airlie Beach on Sunday night.3 nights on Hayman island then a quick trip home as one of our bridesmaids is having her birthday on Saturday. We have to make an appearance as she now lives on the Sunshine Coast but most of her family and friends live in NSW or the ACT.None will now be coming.

So packed and ready to set off in the morning.

The evasive action has begun.Started our dash out of SEQ at 0900.Picked up our mail, continued mrsdrron's quest for 50SCs at BP then headed a short way down the Bruce turning west at Roy's road towards Beerwah.Great views of thelasshouse mountains. Then through Peachester where we got stuck behind a truck and caravan for a particularly windy road.Quite beautiful country that you travel through.

Mrsdrron took over the driving at Blackbutt. Finally come out onto the plains getting close to Dalby.Obviously a very productive area.Able to take a few shots from the Passenger's seat.

From Dalby a mainly straight flat run west on the Warrego highway to Roma.At first yo pass large cotton properties. Finally gives way to sparse bushland but with a lot of flowering wattle at present.
We arrived in Roma ~ 1630 and stopped for the night at the Roma Central motel.Fortunatly in the block not fronting the highway. You can still hear the trucks but not too bad.

Is there a little strip (like crime scene tape) showing the toilet was cleaned?!?

My neighbours made a run to Qld before the NSW travel issues started. They managed to stay ahead of the virus, and are currently in a similar part of the world as you. But they have no idea of just how they’ll get back to Victoria, and I suspect they’ll end up trying NT, SA.

And the food was great. We both had seafood and none was overcooked. Great tastes. Salmon for Mrsdrron and seafood papardelle for me. Washed down with a Tasmanian SB.

Mrs CM had the Salmon last week when we were in town 😋

I might be a bit late and not sure which route you are taking to Airlie but I would go from Emerald up to Clermont and across. Better roads than turning at Capella and going past the mining towns and up the beef road (Fitzroy Development Rd) Also heads up for a nice scenic short cut turning off the Peak Downs Highway at Eton cutting across country and then rejoining the Bruce Highway North of Mackay. This will cut 30 minutes from trip and save going into Mackay proper and avoid roadworks around Farleigh. It's prety much a follow your nose short cut.

Safe travels 😎

In the last 3 days we have passed nearly 100 Victorian caravans heading south plus 3 Tasmanians.
Don't know what they are going to do when they reach the NSW border.
