I'm currently putting together a book for my family. Title: You Should Have Been here Yesterday

In putting together my flying experience I'm trying to get my head around when certain major travel events occurred.

I joined the Ansett Golden Wing Club early on, but I seem to recall that it wasn't a Frequent Flyer Club. You just paid your membership and received benefits....True or False.

When I started to fly a lot with QF I seem to recall that I was in a Frequent Traveller Club that allowed us to accumulate points redeemable for gifts. This must have been in the early 1980's. Does anyone remember when this started.

I know the Qantas Club as now is started in May 1987, but I know I accumulated points/miles/gifts prior to then. Is that correct or have I been drinking too much

Many Thanks

Peter Simpson

Golden Wing, correct it was the lounge membership, separate from Ansett frequent flyer. I was a member from around 1991 through to Ansett's demise a decade later. For a while in the mid nineties I was almost part of the furniture in those lounges before I moved to work overseas.
From memory membership was around $125 mid nineties, or am I way off

I would certainly have been somewhere not far off that price. In 1988 lifetime Qantas Club membership was $440. It was quite a lot of money at the time. Wish I'd taken it.

You and me both. (Qantas Club and Ansett GW in those days)
I was offered GW lifetime from Ansett, first at $1500, then $2000 and just didn't have the cash at each particular time. As it ended up for Golden Wing it wouldn't have meant much after September 2001 so dodged a bullet there (I would have got my money's worth though)
Thinking back to mid-nineties, I could rock up without actually flying anywhere, bring friends in who were flying on my membership, cash cheques, take a shower, food/drink, and the lounge dragons I made friends with would always sling me back a few extra guest passes so I never ran out.
I used to park my beat up old 63 Mercedes in front of Perth airport drop off area and they'd let me leave it there for hours (bless them, it was a pile of s**t)

Thanks for all of that. Does anyone know when TAA, Qantas, Ansett set up their FF offerings? I know QF had such before 1987 when they set up Qantas Club

My post above should have actually referred to 'Flight Deck' which was the club set up by TAA.
