With the National radically changing their Visa reward program, what's your recommendation for a simple Visa card:
- No points cap
- $1 for 1 point
- 1 point = 1 FF point when transferred

That's all I want!

And the chances of that happening are what?

Problably slim to none I'm afraid but if that were to happen then I'm going bak to NAB. 8)

If you want no points cap and 1 FF point per A$ spent, then you are likely to also get a large annual fee, such as with CBA Plat Visa. Remember that the FF points are funded by the annual fee and/or large spends. Banks are no longer in the business of giving us something for nothing.

Perhaps the Wollies card is one of the better low cost cards, but I am no expert on it. I try to put everything I can through my Amex Rewards Maximiser, and then have a CBA Gold Visa for the rest (but its only 1.5 points per $2 spent).

Thx - I'll check out the CBA Plat Visa - I already use the same strategy of putting as much as I can through Amex. But some months there are some large amounts to go through Visa - and a $3K cap on 1:1 is not enough

Any tips on which bank/issuer has the best alternative apart from the NAB?

I find that Woolworths Ezy MasterCard is the best around for value, $39 annual fee is very cheap and it includes the rewards fee. You earn 1 QFF point per dollar and there is no points capping so you can accumulate as many points as you like. The minimum amount that you can transfer to Qantas is 3600 points. There is no travel insurance or any other benefits with this card but I doubt if the free travel insurance offered by the other cards is any good anyway. They gave me a generous credit limit also.

Citibank Plat & Insurance

I have a Citibank Platinum Visa. Costs $250 a year so quite expensive, howvere points is $1:1pt for QF and NZ and $2:1pt for AA and others and I spend about $100k a yera and have yet to encounter any limitations (although there is a statement on limitation but apparently is not enforced).

The really good thing for me is that it provides a FULLY comprehensive travel insurance plan that is as good as anything you can purchase elsewehere. The gold card also has a v good insurance policy with slightly lower limits. Apart form 1:1 points this is the other reason for shelling out the high fee for me. A couple fo trips a year and I definitely save money on travel insuraance.

Best Card

Can't suggest a Visa card but I have done the research and found the ideal Mastercard. After ANZ put a cap on the $1 for 1 point Visa card and kept on increasing their fees I gave them the flick. There is a national Credit Union Mastercard (linked but join at your local) that offers 1 for 1 and very low fees. I pay about $42 a year and nothing else even for an additional card.
It is linked to Citibank and Bluesky Rewards but if you don't want to use that option it is very simple to transfer your points to Qantas.
Don't be put off and think you can't join a credit union as I think just about anybody can. At least it worth investigating.

Flying credit cards

My Woolworths Mastercard is great! $1 per 1QFF. They gave me a big credit, so paid for RTW J class with card plus all o/s exps.
Also you receive 1.25 FF points per $1 at their shops; spend $30 plus, get 4c litre off petrol, pay for petrol with card and get another lot of 1.25 points.
Transferring points to QFF is easy by autophone. There are other reward partners, including grog and electronics so it's not hard to rack up points.
After my research - best value - specially if you can share it with a sub- card carrying family member.
About to raid the bank on Award Uk trip! ( bkd prior 25/5).

Not sure whether this has changed, but the citibank silver card represents decent value for what you are looking for.

It has a point cap though - i don't know by how much though.

I think the annual fee is roughly $70 pa.
Has 1:1 point conversion
Includes purchase insurance.

Can you tell me which credit union? I'm in Melbourne.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

When you use a card from another financial institution to your regular one can you pay the monthly bill via BPAY? The National has a limit on funds transfers but not BPAY.

Specifically, the cards this thread has mentioned - Woolies, Citibank, credit union.

[edit: answered my own queston: Woolies Mastercard - pay via BPAY]

is the international currency exchange fee the same on woolies card as other CBA cards?

I've been using the Ezy Mastercard for a couple of months now. It's all that it's promised to be so far... 1:1, no points cap...

Anyone else fine soemthing better?
