Hey there everyone,

this thread needs to go nowhere. I am just excited about a flight I have coming up and no one in my real world cares :)

In two days time I am getting my first flight on a 787. I have loved that plane since they were first designed, but here in Colombia I had only seen them, never flown them.

My first flight is just a short one in Y, flying on Avianca. Travelling Cartagena to Bogota. Just over an hour flight.

I have travelled quite a bit, but am excited about this flight. Hoping someone out there has suffered similar excitement at " just another flight" , so I don't feel so mental.

Or am I? :)

I feel the same about the 777, I'm like a kid at Christmas when I get to fly one.

Love the windows. Watching the wing at work is awesome as well. Make sure to hang back and ask if you can have a peek at the flight deck. Have fun! :D

Is this where I say last week we were at the Seattle Boeing factory, seeing them turn these out and flight testing? The staff there love their product so I hope you have a great flight!

I was sooooo excited to be booked onto my first 787 flights last month, then 26 hours before the scheduled flight, the flight got cancelled and had to divert and fly an A332 :( :(

That is awesome! I love the A380, but for everything else, Boeing have beauty after beauty.

If you ever get the chance, do the tour. I was going to sit it out (boring, I thought) but I was really glad I did it.

Its weird, you are standing in this building and because the scale is so HUGE, there are 8 to 12 airframes in various stages, up until completion, and its like counting toy planes.

I hope you enjoy the flight, the window sizes look nice and the wings interesting.

We were told about a developmental 797 with retractable wings.

I heard that Richard Branson was going to buy the Concordes for $1 a piece and restart their services. :)

Well I think I know where half of one is, so he will only need fifty cents for that part.

By memory, they said they can turn out a 787, except for testing, within 4 days.

There is absolutely "just another flight", and flights which you really look forwards to, and yes for aero-geeks, it can be the plane type which distinguishes, be it a new type of plane, or just simply an plane type which they like but seldom get to fly on.

So far my 1 and only 787 flight has been a SYD-MEL run on JQ last year. It's a run that is fairly mundane, on an airline which I never fly, but it was a flight I was seriously looking forwards to.

So no, you're not mental, or if you are I am as well

He offered (more than £1 i think) but BA/AF would not sell at any price ..

Surely not when you're in an EK 777 with 10 across Y??!

I was so excited to go to launch ceremony of Royal Brunei ' s first 787 flight from Melbourne. We were so lucky to be able to see all sections of the plane that you normally never experience. Was amazed at vastness of cargo hold and all instrumentation in the fairly small coughpit. I would find it hard to enjoy my work space if I were a pilot on a long flight. Congrats to them all for being so cramped and still being able to take off and land us all safely. And those Rolls Royse engines seemed huge when standing next to them. I really enjoyed the morning, fascinating and soon interesting. Have since flown it Melbourne to Brunei return twice and really enjoyed myself. Off to LHR soon, all the way on 787.

You are not mental, mate. I was hanging out for my first 787 flight on LA JFK-SCL last September.

It was on my 2014 DONEx and I had (at the time of booking, thought) cleverly booked the AA codeshare for the the extra points. Only problem was that, as a codeshare pax, I could not pre-select my seat so I ended up on the aisle in the last row of J. Dang! Flight was still great and the lady next to me, a medico from Patagonia, was good company over dinner but it wasn't quite the same as my usual 1A (OK, OK - first world problems.)

Made up for it in no uncertain terms SCL-MAD in 1A a couple of weeks later - as well-posted in the 'View from my office' thread at the time :).

Sounds like someone hankering for a new iPhone 6 (like my kids)!!! Fun, exciting, new and total understand with the adrenaline pumping; but how I miss the 747's! Old fashioned, maybe, but I still think nothing beats sitting in the top deck and the roar of the engines gunning down the runway, then that big proboscis points skyward.... The next iPhone 7 will be the A350, but still doesn't replace the "Lady of the Sky"!

Had a flight on one - JQ SYD-MEL - maybe I'm getting old/jaded but the only thing that interested me was the way the windows shaded. The rest was ... meh ... just a plasticy appointed cramped JQ aircraft ... maybe another carrier would be better ...

I felt exactly the same.
Done a few JQ35s last year and wasn't too impressed by the plane. Row 10 in Y is ok, automatic window blinds are nice... That's about it.
Didn't try it myself but heard J on the A330 is more comfortable.
Having said that JQ have the talent to make anything look underwhelming...

Love the 747's.

Haven't tried the 787 yet but can't get too excited as the bar was set high and will be hard to replace.

First 787 flight next week (JQ, 'faux' business class MEL-BKK) and looking forward to it! Will also leave me with just the 717 to conquer to complete the 7x7 series for me. :)
