I have more than $4,999 in Travelbank

I called ANZ Travel and they put the ticket into credit, but ANZ Travel retains control over the ticket so I have to call them to book the flights later, not ideal. ie. you can't convert it into a VA travel bank.
So do you know if the credit is with ANZ Travel to spend on anything they sell or is it with VA but can only be spent through ANZ Travel?

After some cancellations from a few weeks ago trickling in I now have more than $4,999 in Travelbank despite the Virgin website saying that is the maximum and their terms and conditions saying the excess over $4,999 would be provided in “another form”.
I have $4900 and I've said my goodbyes :(

Couldn't you take them back as refund?

Regardless, is there any God you would like me to help start praying for you?

Is there a 'frequent flyer' god? The Ancient Greeks had lots of gods - maybe we could repurpose Zeus - he was God of the Sky. That seems pretty close. No idea what fees he charges.

It actually falls under your credit card travel insurance policy in the event of travel provider insolvency, so the amount is covered by insurance - however there is usually an excess for this type of claim.
Depends on:
  1. Whether your credit card has travel insurance included (many don't)
  2. If you've met the minimum criteria to activate the coverage (e.g. $500 minimum spend)
  3. If insolvency and / or pandemics is an exclusion to the cover

- Richard Branson only owns 10% of it.
- Does he still have any money after throwing some of his money down Flybe?
I think praying at gods, any God, any religion, would be more effective at this stage. 🤣

Yes, he and his partner could easily fund what VA are asking the government for.

But like the government - will he do it - no way. And we know the reason why.

The status credit gift took me to Platinum today so I now have more than $4,999 in Travelbank and a platinum membership for an airline in administration.

Double win!
Congratulations!

You could book flights today for travel in the next few months and then when you do travel you'll have Platinum benefits, sounds like a good position to be in.

I can confirm travel bank is still allowed for paying for bookings. I did this last week for a booking.

Weve got a travel bank of just under 2k. Luckily had a successful charge back for $2100 on my virgin high flyer card otherwise we'd be in the hole for roughly 4k

The bookings aren't worth much if the flights never eventuate. Used some of the travel bank for some flights in late July hoping that by then the restrictions might be eased enough to have some semblance of a little domestic holiday.

I was surprised when the agent told me it would be direct flights from sydney to cairns so it would seem they are booking future flights that are not part of their current skeleton flight network.

None of the airlines have deleted any of their precious full capacity schedule beyond the ‘cancellation’ dates... so all the flights are there to book and they will happily take your money. Whether VA2 will fly that route though is highly debatable of course!

This is what I am looking at doing with my small Travel Bank especially considering the promo codes are still working.
I think there is less risk having a future dated flight booked than Travel Bank and as Easter is early April next year it's already bookable.

Hi Harthagan. Can I ask if the credit card chargeback was successful because the flights didn't happen ie. they were cancelled or perhaps because you couldn't travel? Were they for flights in the future?

Really appreciate your advise. Thanks.

I hope this proves to be the case but not sure why it would. The outcome of both scenarios will likely rely upon an act of goodwill from the new owners.

Was for 2 return business saver flights to bali in july. Called virgin and they said all they can do is give a travel bank. So I emailed them a letter demanding a refund and stating that I would request a chargeback otherwise.

Got no reply so called up the credit card and got a very helpful lady who said all I had to do was show them that I had contacted virgin and asked for a refund on the basis of service paid for and not received. The money was credited the next day including the CC fee, that was over a month ago.

Unfortunately when I recently repeated the exact same process for some domestic flights I wasn't as lucky. Was told that virgin advised them that they had offered me a suitable alternative and so they would investigate it and it could take 6-8 weeks so I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Many of us have travel credit and bookings in limbo and are out of pocket as a result. Judging by what you've experienced, waiting for what eventuates out of this mess may not be the wisest option. When I get the chance I'm gonna see how I get on with requesting a refund and if that doesn't work a chargeback via my credit card.
