Hello All

I'm off to the USA next week for a 4 week holiday. I booked a flight on the Aussie AA website from SFO - LAS via LAX. It wasn't showing up on my Qantas profile so I called Qantas. The nice man at Qantas transferred me to the AA call centre in Brisbane. The nice AA man said they had my number and could see I am ruby but said my names are reversed. Instead of being Miss Karen S.... it says Miss S.... Karen. The nice AA man said it's not a problem because it's domestic travel.

Is anyone else going to admit to having done this? And how did you go?

Karen

I had some domestic AA YUP fares last year and noticed within a couple of minutes of booking online that I had put the surname/christian names back to front. I immediately contacted AA.au site (which naturally went to India) and was told that I would have to re-ticket the entire lot of flights (8 in all) and I think it cost me something in the vicinity of AUD$115. However, if the rep at AA told you it was okay then ..... Is there any way you could get that in an email just to be sure as it would be a shame to arrive at check and be denied boarding.

Mmm, good point. I know it's only a $150 ticket but would be annoying if I had to buy a new one on the day at probably a dearer price. Will call them again.

Don't worry, I once booked SYD-MEL one way from the hotel in MEL. The lenient Qantas Sales Desk lady held the ticket in credit thankfully.

I did it once on a domestic flight in Australia. Only thing is that the points won't post automatically.

I'm guilty of this in the same way - booked through AA Aus website.
I only found out upon checking in at JFK that my name was backwards . Check in staff helped and issued the BP ;) but had to send a retroactive claim to FF for QF miles (processed quickly).
It wasn't until I booked another flight that I worked out the name order. Won't be making that mistake agin!!! (hopefully).
I also was booked once (by someone else) as a MRS on a JQ flight.
Again only found out when checking the booking online.
Rang the JQ call centre to advise and they just swapped it straight over - operator was quite good about it.

Don't worry I did the same thing as like many others about a month ago. It was a flight from LAX-LAS and only reason i found out was when I was trying to view my booking on their website was that when i put michael in as my last name that i could see the booking.

The funny thing is I had already phoned AA in Qld about adding my FF number to it (Ruby at the time) to change to an exit row seat and they did not pick it up either. I phoned back when I realised and they gave me the same speal (Domestic doesnt matter)

The only issues I had was that the QF desk in Melbourne could not issue me a bording pass for the flight but could check my bags all the way through so there was no issues. What I did was online checked in at the QP in Mel for the flight (which was lucky as my inbound A380 was delayed at immigration a nighmare as always) and used that boarding pass to get through security at T4 and boards the plane. The QP at T4 also said there was no issues but did change my print out to a real boarding pass which still displayed name wrong.

I think it was an O fare so I did not earn any QPoints (I really should have signed up for AAdvantage to get some miles from it) however it did appear in My Activity Statement with no hassles about 5 days after other AA flights had posted all be with no points.

I still don't think you will be able to see the booking on your QF profile even though you booked through the AA Aus site (others please correct) as I still dont think the link with Amandeus is fully there but you can ring qantas with the PNR and ETicket numbers and they will tag it onto your current bookings for info purposes such as checking through bags but will not display seat numbers etc.

Hope this answers your concerns

In March this year I made an online J booking with Dragonair for HKG-HKT-HKG for the wife and I.

Her booking, for reasons I cannot explain, come out with her surname as her christian name and her christian name as her surname.

I simply kept the boarding passes and upon our return to Australia, I sent her passes to QFF with a covering letter.

Points were credited several days later.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful advice and am glad to learn I'm not the only one to have done it.

My other half is named Melanie but its Melania on her birth cert/passport. I just booked SYD-NAN in Melanie  (on air pacific)
