I am happy to pay more (gold membership) for a stable server for AFF

I have noticed the quality of the speed, reliability and availability of AFF has dropped off in recent months. I am aware that costs to run these sites have increased two fold over the last 12 months based on my own domain name and hosting cost increases.

I am happy to pay more as a member of AFF to get the site more reliable which is a real problem as of late.

Let's use this thread as a note to Admin to let him know how we feel about this

plus wouldn't mind AFF raising funds with the help of goodies (Eg. AFF Luggage Tags Etc) I mean to say enhance the travel gear / services section to increase the income of the website.

Great job by keeping the annoying ads away from the Gold Members !!!!!

Hmmm - brings to mind that I paid for luggage tags quite a while back and haven't received them - anyone know remember who was doing them?

As for speed - that has been a continual hassles - reliability hasn't been much of a concern here (odd bug/dropout etc) - but loading speed could definitely do with enhancing.

Need a better collocated / VPS / DHS server I guess or a better bandwidth @ that server or hosting service.

Anyways , i have not been experiencing any issues with the stability of the site since i joined ( which is recently ) - but speed .. yes needs to be faster ... ( after all Australia is going to have the NBN up and running by 2045 .. lol.. just kiddin)

I haven't really had any problems but I would still be willing to pay a bit more for my gold subscription if it made things easier for admin to keep the server running smoothly.

admin has made comment a few times lately that there have been some issues with the ad server, which loads independently, and which has been slowing things down for those who see the ads. (ie those without Gold membership) He is not completely happy with how it is currently working and plans to look at further solutions when he returns to Oz toward the end of the month.

And "enhancing" does not mean QF's definition of enhancements!!

I know he’s away right now but doing all he can to speed things up whenever there are issues, as straitman says. It’s not been too bad of late for me. I load more posts per page though, so perhaps if you do too that could be a reason for some slowness, compared to a default setting.

As mentioned by others I think it has something to do with the ad server. I am having issues at work (no ad blocker) but no issues at home or in the Qantas Lounges.

To be fair though if we are going to suggest some sort of user pays system (increasing membership is user pays) then take into the consideration the lurkers (who I believe make up an overwhelming majority of AFF users) who take away a tremendous amount of knowledge from AFF and contribute absolutely nothing....
