Hi All,

I am looking at booking some nights at the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo using points and am trying to compare the cost as I will need to purchase additional points.

If you were to pay the normal rate, when I click on Rate Details it mentions Additional Charges - Government Tax, Accommodation Tax and Service Charge which add an extra $90 per night to the room.

However when I select the same room using points and click on Rate Details, none of this is mentioned.

Will I still have to pay these charges if I book using points? The Ts&Cs say service charges are not included but I thought that was probably referring to tipping.

Is there anyone who could shed some light on this based on their experiences?

Thanks.

I redeemed Hyatt Points in Japan in late 2011 - and never had any "additional" charges.

Generally you don't pay taxes on award nights. India with *wood, however, appears to be an exception.
