In previous years during Schoolies time, HSP have gone to the extent of blacking out all days from the web booking engine, requiring people to ring to make a booking to ensure they keep out schoolies.

Yesterday I was speaking to a parent of a schoolie that had booked HSP and it seems HSP has sold out to the big bucks. The parent informed me they had booked 6 schoolies into one HSP apartment (2 bed +sofa I believe) for a week and each one had to pay AU$1000 (AU$6000 total for the week) and breakfast was not included!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'd say the notion of keeping schoolies out was doomed to fail. They can only make it more difficult (e.g. more expensive and harder to book).

I assume the property still reserves the right to kick out errant behaving people as they see fit, plus a guarantee (e.g. credit card) needs to be provided at check in to cover damage. Unlike most other Gold Coast properties, the Hilton at least has "competent" staff on duty at all times, so they can respond faster to a situation (unruly behaviour etc.), containing and minimising most disturbances. If the entire property was filled with schoolies that may be another thing.

Schoolies, where does all this money come from.

When I left school it was few people on a day out to the Royal National Park.....by train!

You were lucky! And we wonder where the sense of entitlement comes from in many young people!

Our eldest and his mates all flew to Bali two years ago. He worked part time and saved his money for his own scooter and his schoolies trip (much to his mothers horror on both accounts). Now he wants a motorcycle, and certainly earns enough to buy one himself, that was an interesting dinner discussion

Schoolies, where does all this money come from.

Usually it's Mummy and/or Daddy who sent them through the private education system.

Then there's usually one person in the cohort (and almost all of them once the prep-school system premiere classes come through) who is 18 and can supply the booze. (Just have to hide it well from the housekeeping staff, or make sure Mummy and Daddy are, or have access to, a good lawyer).

I can report from 'on the ground' on this one, given I'm at HSP right now. Last night in the lounge an interesting crew lobbed in - all Monster energy caps askew and baggy shorts. At first I thought they were schoolies but they sounded more like US pro skateboarders. Anyway they gave the spirits a good hammering but that was about it. This morning in the lounge (where I'll be all day, working) a raucous crew were whooping and holloring while watching vids on their phones. I let it go for a while but then fronted them and told them to shut it. They looked a bit shocked, calmed down for a while but got me back with a few good utterances on the way out.

The other tower (further from beach) does seem to have a fair few schoolies in it. At the neighbouring block to the north it was a madhouse in one unit - I seriously thought these guys were going over the railing their dancing and carry-on was so extreme. Love the funnel though - they were hitting that hard.

Didn't leave my room (relaxation suite, BTW) last night but outside sounded like chaos. At one stage a group of about 100 came walking past and chanting over and over, seriously: "t*ts out for the boys". Charming. But possibly it's not as bad as I might have thought out there on the street (during daylight, anyway).

First time at HSP for me and I must say service levels are excellent. In the lounge, down at Salt, at reception - unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

I planned on extending a Brisbane overnight work trip last week to include a few nights at HSP but decided against the idea due to schoolies.. Looks Like I made the right choice.

I take it you didn't oblige?

I've got a family function on the Gold Coast in a few days time. Booked a favourite unit tower a little north of Surfers. Halfway between Tedder and Cahill. Hoping it's not too bad. Schoolies tends to be something that isn't on my radar, but the date was out of my hands this time.

I'm currently at HSP staying in the residences.. can say there are heaps of schoolies in the hotel. Its not actually the schoolies im annoyed at they are fine. Its the security on the front door, they are so rude to me because I look young, refusing to let me in the front door (to the tower I am in) sending me around the back. I addressed this with management a number of times who said they talked to the security guard. After attempted again after each time they told me they talked to him he has become increasingly ruder. When I asked to explain why I am sent around to the back entrance when other guests are not as I am not a schoolie he refused to tell me. I asked to speak with his manager, he said if I don't go now he will call the police on me. Note: I was not being rude or agressive in anyway, I said "can you please explain to me why I have to go around the side".

I feel like a criminal each time I try and enter my hotel room. As HH Diamond member this is not the service I expect. Anyone have any other avenues I can take to address this poor service I am receiving?

That sounds horrible, Im young also.. (and look even younger) that sometimes I've had a real hassle in Hilton Restaurants/Bars and even trying to check in.. As a lowly Gold HHonors you can imagine this is quite an underwhelming welcome....)
Have you spoken to management about compensation? I'd be Very upset by this, especially due to the threats of police intervention.

Did you talk to the GM?

Im young also.. (and look even younger)

I wish I looked young (better still, I wish I was young....er). Can I suggest that by all means, attempt to have these situations resolved, but revel in the fact people think you look young. It won't be like that forever so enjoy it to the max while you can.

banana0692, take your complaint to the GM. It's their obligation to all their guests to ensure they are welcomed and treated with respect. This is not always the case (even outside of schoolies) and HSP is not well known for actually understanding how a Hilton brand hotel should be run. It has since opening, struggled with it's identity.....not entirely sure whether it's trying (and failing) to be a classy hotel or just another one in the myriad hotel mix in Surfers. Your issue is just another example of that and believe me, I've had some very good experiences there and some very poor experiences there (and unfortunately, I don't look young :(). Make your complaint to all. You've already complained to the hotel and if anything, your experiences have worsened. Take it now to HH diamond desk and let them know as a diamond, you felt belittled, discriminated against purely because of your looks (and maybe age) and that it has made a much anticipated stay with Hilton more an endurance rather than a relax. They may (should?) offer you some form of compensation.

The security guards would have just been instructed to shove all schoolies around the back, (by back, do you mean the mall entrance near the Boulevard tower elevators) but perhaps not instructed as to what actually differentiates a schoolie from an adult guest. When one actually boils it down, why are schoolies being treated any different to other guests at all? Especially as they are being charged ridiculous room rates.

Now there's a theme for the Christmas drinks.

Don't you believe it. The westies are pretty flush at this time as well

Stand on your digs and let him call the police. It will go much worse for him. Believe me. The police have better things to do than enforce right of entry to a hotel.

I'd ask him to do it, so you can talk to real security.

Main Beach is a great spot, plenty of good dining on Tedder. Enjoy.

That sounds completely unacceptable. Do you mind me asking how you are dressed though? Cap/baggy shorts/ socks-half-way-up-type-of-thing? Fair enough shouldn't matter. I found the staff at HSP amazingly helpful and attentive. They even showed me around the grounds and escorted me to the gym. I left a lot of positive feedback for them.
