What are the main benefits of this card?

It's actually amazing that they are offering this. My gold status with Singapore Airlines ends in January 2027 and I had just about come to terms with losing it - but now I think I'll swap to Air Canada to get the extra year through to the end of 2028!

I haven't received the email yet, but the HSBC's website have updated FAQ's, here's the direct link to the PDF. Pgs 5&6 are the relevant sections.

from my quick read - the main thing to be wary of is to not close the card yourself before the end date.

What happens to my Star Alliance Premium Status if I close my account before 18 November?	If you close your HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card account prior to 18 November 2026 (via HSBC online/mobile banking, contact centre or branch), the Star Alliance Rewards Program Terms and Conditions apply. Any Star Alliance Premium Status granted under the Program will be cancelled and withdrawn immediately when you close your account.
What happens to my current Star Alliance Premium Status after 18 November?	Any Star Alliance Premium Status you qualified for before 18 November 2026 will continue until its applicable Status End Date, subject to the rules of the relevant Participating Status FFP.
What if I've requalified for Premium Status (by spending $30k / $48k), but my Status Start Date would be on or after 18 November 2026? Annoyingly I don't think there's any feasible way for me to cycle $28k through the card by 18 November (card anniversary was end of April, and I have been spending on the replacement Visa to get the SUB). Possibly could have, if they'd confirmed sooner.

My anniversary date with the HSBC card is 3.2.2027. If I spend $38K by 17 Nov 2026, will my Aeroplan Gold Status be extended til 31.12.27 or 31.12.2028?

If the latter, I might have a go at it somehow! Still 35K away...!

I went for Qantas Titanium, it does have a few conditions re; salary, high AF, but 150k QFF.

I wonder for those of us who signed up last year under the Aeroplan offer with an initial 30k miles given and then 20k upon retaining gold on card anniversary, will actually get the 20k now.

The card anniversary was due to be after the card will be closed.
