HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card - Can I nominate SQ as my Status Airline again?

Hi All,

I had this card when it first launched at the end of 2022 and obtained KrisFlyer Elite Gold. The card was closed at the end of 2023 (HSBC has an exclusion period of 18 months for the Welcome Offer for this product)

So fast forward to today, I've just been approved for the card a second time and was looking forward to getting KFEG status again after meeting the minimum $4000 spend in 90 days of card opening, however a Star Alliance customer representative has said this:

"The Welcome Offer is extended exclusively to new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card customers. Kindly note that Singapore Airlines applies a policy whereby the activation of Star Alliance Gold Status through this promotion is permitted only once per customer, irrespective of whether the 18-month eligibility period has been fulfilled. Regrettably, this policy is firm and cannot be amended.

For other participating Star Alliance member airlines, the Welcome Offer, including the fast track to Gold Status, remains available to eligible new cardholders, subject to the standard terms and conditions."

I've searched everywhere and can't see this in any T&Cs. Is there any truth to this and does anyone on here have any experience with this?

Not ideal.
But got me wondering... I currently have SQ Gold through the card, if I change this next year to Aeroplan 50k Gold and then the following year I'm assuming I could go back to SQ Gold with no issues? Assuming your issue is simply getting SQ Gold via fast track..?

So you mean meeting the minimum annual spend to renew Gold for a subsequent year? I didn't think about that.. it may be possible? Yes SQ Gold via fast track didn't work for me. I had to go with Aeroplan.

But with your method assuming it works, I keep Aeroplan now for a year then meet the $48k spend to retain Gold, then select SQ KF for the next year? Might work...

Yes, I dont think there should be a problem if I've / you've continuously held the card and met the (now) $48k spend. Changing status partners shouldn't be an issue meaning continuous *A albeit with a different partner
