I'm on Qf107 SYDF to JFK via LAX. How do I transit?

Do I go thru immigration in LAX and back again through security or does that happen in JFK?

Yes and very slowly - did this last year and will b=never complain about Sydney airport ever again

After experiencing the joys of QF107 and the endless queues at LAX last month, I will never ever complain about Sydney airport ever again. One and a half hours to get through the immigration line and the Qantas person had actually left the baggage carousel area by the time we got there to collect our bags. Nothing difficult but just one endless queue after another

Just make sure you look for the QF ground staff member holding a QF107 sign and happens to have pockets full of large fluoro orange Express Connection cards. These allow you to use the APEC/crew line to get through immigration quicker.
