Quick post to say this looks just the thread I need to read for OW award seats. ANA was my first call for checking *A award seats.

Great thread anat01. OW search is definitely harder than *A, especially for award seats that is more than 2 pax.

I don't know what availability is like on Qatar, but having used BA it has returned results with Qatar flights (i.e. going via Doha).

Some others on here have reported success booking itineraries that involve Qatar Airways, so unless they know something I don't, I'm assuming they have also used one of these tools (but my money is on BA).

I also confirm that BA has correctly shown QR availability on several flights I have booked. I have also found BA has accurately shown TAM (JJ) availability for bookings.

I also use BA for CX availability for ease of search but always double check with JAL as I have found BA is not always correct for CX.

I have now had a number of JAL bookings and found their site to correctly show availability to OW members, availability does not appear to relate only to JL FF's. I have also noticed that US agents appear to be able to see JAL availability much easier than I had previously experienced.

I second this comment re: QR and JJ. Plenty of availability on BA site and no different when speaking to US agent.

A question about QR. Using KVS (and also separately QF and BA websites) I find loads of availability in J PER-DOH and reasonable availability MEL-DOH, but never see anything DOH-PER or DOH-MEL (acutally QF website doesn't allow DOH to be added as the departure city, only destination)...not even in Y. Given that BA and QF (KVS) seem to corroborate this, is it actually the case...all the availability is in one direction only? Is it likely that over the phone the US agents will see something different? Unlikely I know.

Not sure about your dates, but I had no issues finding availability DOH-PER in Feb '15. I had a window of 5 days, and every day had at least 2 J seats. This was checking through BA.

When are you searching?

I am thinking about getting KVS as I am finding British Airways/Qantas/AA harder to do mass searches with Oneworld Awards as I found it easy with Star Alliance with United/ANA.

Can anyone confirm it's ease in finding Oneworld availability with US DM?

Even with KVS the process is much more time consuming than the *A days. However it's still worth it for the ease of quickly comparing different methods. The lack of 7 day search is a bit of a pain compared to *A.

All KVS (or AwardNexus) does is searching the same airline data base that you would search for free yourself using the airline site. Yes, it's slightly more convenient but isn't worth the money IMHO
I've been using BA/AA/QF/JAL searches, it's time consuming but does the job

You can use the [Power Search] for OneWorld Award Availability searches of up to 30 days:

Is there a trial to test this thing out or do you have to put down your hard-earned first to give it a try?

I have tried to look up the QR flights Perth or Melb/DOH and I can not find any flights. I seem to be able only find flights DOH-Perth then connection to Melb but no direct flights from Melb either way. Also I can't seem to see any flights from Melb/Perth to Doha.

How are you able to see these flights? I have also down loaded the latest version of the KVStool but it still isn't coming up.
Are other people having these issues?

Hi All
It's my first post after hanging around for a few months doing lots of reading. Firstly thanks to Anat01 for the search info back in April. I've just spent a couple of goggle-eyed days getting used to the BA,QF & JAL sites. I have two questions at the moment. I am currently trying to book a J flight (using USDM) for June/July 2015. There seems to be some availability for the outbound but nothing much coming up for the inbound flight.
Q1: Would the lack of availability for the July return flight be because it is too early?
Q2: If I needed to cancel the award flight for any reason what is the penalty?

Thanks in advance

PS - I've never booked an award flight with any airline before so new to all of it.

Hi Sheenaec, welcome to the forum!

Yes, you are probably too early for the USDM availability. May I suggest that you read the 'USDM thread after joining one world', and the general USDM threads, as that's what you are trying to book. There is lots of info there as you have a few things to weigh up.

Thanks for the info. Will have a look at that now. I did find award availability in J for my dates (or close enough to) so rang USDM and tried to book. The outward bound was fine but I was 8 days too early for the inward bound. The US Airways rep was extremely helpful and checked all the options. I'll try again in about 4 or 5 days and at least put the outbound flight on hold for 72hrs (assuming there is availability) and hope something comes up in that time for the rtn flight.

One more question: If you end up booking J on some legs and F on others how does that effect the DMs needed?
