How to make enemies...! [by weighing carry-on]

Rarely is, which is one of the reasons I don't mind the Dash 8 to and from Sydney from Canberra - only 40 min in the air. They take your bag at the bottom of the stairs and give it back to you at the other end - especially as a 'normal' bag wouldn't fit into the overhead space on a Dash 8. It doesn't stop people trying though
Mr FM’s camera bag never has any trouble fitting under the seat, even though it weighs over 11kg. The 4 of us had a total of 24kg, so well under the 7kg as an average, but the lion share was in Mr FM’s camera bag, so glad there wasn’t any weighing. We did have a plan B to redistribute if there was any issue, but it was all easy.

Ah, I see the issue. Given that cabin luggage isn't an issue on the Dash 8's, and they are operated by QantasLink, hopefully we won't see the scales at gate 14.

I've taken a 20kg (+) camera bag onto SQ International (and Cebu Pacific domestic in the Philippines), normally saying you are a reporter if they glance twice at your bag prevents it being checked!

You know... It's a little bit of a tight squeeze, but that's a lie-flat alternative worth exploring!

Comfortable option for kids without backpacks. I expect project Sunrise is on to it.

cheers skip

I'm considering the Samsonite Prodigy 55cm for my next carry-on - I particularly like the external laptop pocket which would be sufficient for expediting domestic security.

However although this meets the required total dimensions (115cm) I note that the width exceeds those provided in the Carry On Baggage Page at 55x40x20cm rather than 56x36x23 cm.

Has anyone had issues with a cabin bag of this type of sizing?

Regards,

BD

  That's the most awful thing I've ever seen! Even if they paid me $6.99, it would still go in the very first bin I came across! ;) :D

EDIT: The black and white one looks marginally better!

yeah yeah whatever - you don't have to buy it :p

Agreed - but none of the 1.7kg range I could find have that front pocket (or an easy access laptop sleeve inside the main compartment).

Any suggestions?

Regards,

BD
American Tourister herolite-1.6kg
Antler oxygen-1.7kg
Both have a front zipped compartment

Several QF and VA domestic and trans-Tasman flights so far in January and I haven't seen bag weighing or size tests once. Is this really being enforced that well? I always check-in my main bag and only take a laptop bag or soft briefcase so maybe I'm just oblivious. But I've seen people bring on large and pretty heavy looking bags too.
