How to get rid of annoying light sources in hotel rooms

I actually can't sleep without a little light somewhere in the room. Perhaps it's my fear of the bogeyman...

I mostly just use my eyelids. 🤷‍♂️

But then again, I’m one of those people where head hits pillow and I’m asleep in minutes. Tend to stay asleep until my alarm goes off too.

I turn alarm clocks face down. In the Washington HH there was a light under the mirror I couldn’t find the switch to, so I shoved a whole bath towel under it to stop the light.

Alarm clocks - that reminds me. I was in a hotel the other night when the alarm clock beside the bed went off at 4.30am! I most certainly had not set that, and didn't even think to check it before going to sleep...

Pulling that slightly OT thread of annoyances, it’s the hotels with paper thin walls and next doors alarm goes off at 04:30, but no one’s home…! 🤬

I am like this but husband is not so he shoves furniture against the curtains until they meet. Personally I would sleep with curtains open and lights on but corridor noise (hens party in Chester I am talking to you) really disturbs me. Cannot sleep with things in my ears. Short of calling front desk what to do? (Dont do the latter as usually transient).

Painters tape instead of Blutack or masking tape. It’s cheap, comes off easily, and doesn’t leave glue behind.

Some people think it’s a joke leaving alarms set for horrid times, so I generally unplugged the alarm. As often as not, I needed the power point anyway.

I only sleep about 4-5hrs per night but when I’m ready for sleep I can go straight to sleep with all the lights on, TV blaring and don’t even stir until I
wake u automatically. Mrs Jase is the opposite, she wakes up if she hears a mosquito in the next suburb or the light from a clock wakes her. She clips the curtains together and uses all the towels on the gaps under the doors and the room has to be absolutely pitch black

Oh I have done that so many times! It’s a checklist item for me now before going to sleep to always check that no alarms are set.

Just arrived in London and have accepted defeat. Sunrise is currently 04:30am and well light before but there are no shutters/curtains on one of the Airbnb windows! Lucky I have a set of eyeshades for tonight and the next few…😀

My favourite peeve is the flashing smoke detector/fire alarm light every few seconds in the centre of the hotel room. Often out of reach.
I have one of those in my home bedroom! It's an apartment and compulsory. The one in the second bathroom is quite handy as it means I don't have to turn a light on for any night visits.

Strange choice, we have a compulsory wired smoke detector with flashing light (and back up battery) but its in the hallway just outside the two bedroom doors, so close the door and the annoying light goes away. Wonder who made silly decision to put it in the bedroom?

I usually sleep quite easily but wife can be a light sleeper especially if her mind's on the little one. A little light in the room is ok as long as it's not too bright.

We turn off any gadgets we don't need such as TV. Curtains can be an issue in some cheaper hotels.

The only fire we have had in another home was in a bedroom. The battery smoke detector in that room woke my son up and his room was already smoking away. I can live with it.

I hate the bar fridge / mini bar noise...i have been known to turn it off!
Always off (if can access the plug switch- will move them)
I have been know to *not* turn them on in the morning
