How to determine which plane?

Is there an online tool that will allow you to determine which actual plane model you are flying on?

Aircraft type, I think.

Ie I look up TG 600 on such and such a date and it will tell which aircraft type it is.
Primarily to be able to look up seating arrangements.

Though I have pulled up UA873 on 17 July NRT-TPE and the result is a 777-200. But it says there are six versions of this aircraft - is there an easy way to tell which one of these will be the flight I am on?

I have then checked into UA and compared against the seat map shown there and it looks like it is the V6 Hawaii - but it is not exactly correct (a few extra seats in Row 5 than what seat guru shows - but apart from that it looks about right).

Is that the most confirmation I will receive?

I take it this flight must then do a trip through Hawaii at some point? Is there a tool which will show the route this particular plane will then take?

Generally need a seat map to determine that. Expert Flyer provides those for many airlines, but is a paid subscription (you can get a free 5 day trial though IIRC). With some airlines, you can get to see the seat map prior to committing to the booking. There may be a free seat map service out there but if there is i don't know it. Happy to check a few out for you once you have a clearer idea what you are after (but not tonight, a bit late for me now )

Edit: PS. I'm not familiar with the UA board over on flyertalk.com, but some of those boards have information of this nature - i.e. which configs operate which services.

873 is actually GUM-NRT.

There is a very easy way to check the seating for United.

Go to the united website and make a dummy booking for a paid seat. one way will do fine.

find your flight from the list of results and you'll see a link to 'view seats'.

Simply select that and you have your seat map.

for the 873 it looks like it is the OLD conficuration business class - so recliner seats in a 2-3-2 configuration. It doesn't appear to match any of the seat guru configurations.

I've found seatguru to be increasingly inaccurate over the past 12 to 18 months to the point I take the information with a pinch of salt.

Is there a way to know where my plane has come from and where it is going after my flight?

Would you call this a plane itinerary?

If you know the tail number (rego) of the plane, Flight Aware makes it easy to work out where it's been... (eg VH-OEJ) also makes for some interesting viewing on where they've been.. f'rinstance VH-OEI did a bit of a round trip on NY Eve... VH-OEI


Where it's going to go next is slightly harder and I'll leave suggestions to more learned readers...
