Hi, apologies if this is a simple question, but I've searched everywhere and through this forum and can't seem to find an obvious answer.

I have a booking for my family to travel in June. The website only allows you to book <2yo as a lap infant, so that's what my youngest son (1yo) is currently booked as. My wife wants to get his own seat for him, so we have more space to spread out.

Do I just have to ring up the call centre  and suffer the current queues to make the change? Or is there another way?

And if we do book our 1yo a separate seat, is it mandatory to also bring a child restraint for him to sit in? If we didn't bring a restraint, I'm guessing we'd need to place him as a lap infant with a loop belt every time the seatbelt sign went on, rather than in the normal belt on his seat? (I know on Qatar they will provide a restraint if you ask, not sure if SIA will do this)

Thanks!

Have you considered trying for a bassinet instead? You'll have to pay if you want a seat for your 1yo; bassinets are free (but first come, first served). You should be able to see the bassinet seating marked on the seating plan; can't remember if you have to call up to get those seats as it's a few years now since we used one.

The bassinet row seats also have the advantage of having a bit of extra room (in both Y and J) as they are at the bulkheads.

Of course, depends how big your 1yo is as to whether they will fit in a bassinet -- we travelled with one of our kids at ~11mo on SQ in Y and she was fine (and very happy) fitting into the bassinet. Dimensions are on this page: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/us/travel-info/special-assistance/travelling-with-children/

They do make you get them out of there during turbulence, which can be frustrating if you've just got them off to sleep, but otherwise it's a great option.

Yeah, nice idea! We've used a bassinet in the past, and they can be great! On this flight he'll be 18 months and is a bit of a porker, so I think that option is kinda closing to us. :)

Hi,

How did you go with the ticketing?

We have been having this problem as well.
Booked 2 x J class partner airline awards on Virgin using Sing points,
but Singapore so far has been unable to issue the infant ticket as it's on a partner airline.
Rang Virgin they are unable to issue an infant ticket as they can't attach it to the adult's ticket booked through Sing.
I'm going to try to get them to issue an economy points ticket, as the baby will be in our laps.

Yeah in the end I had a similar problem, though with cash ticket not reward. We booked our three seats and a lap infant online, then rang the call centre to convert the lap infant to a seat.

The agent told me the the cost and tried to ticket it for over an hour, but she was ultimately unable to as we had a code share flight included in the booking.

She said the only way she could do it was to cancel the entire booking and rebook everyone. Which at the fare bucket availability by the time we got through to the call centre would have added many thousands to our costs.

So we are just sticking with the lap infant and gritting our teeth. :-(
