Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You can use QF541 (QFA541) Qantas Flight Tracking and History - FlightAware to look at the performance of the flights.

12 days of flight history for QF541
10 flights arrived effectively on time
1 flight cancelled and you would have flown earlier
1 flight arrived 2 hours late, collect bags, transfer to INT and you are still there by 20:45

In your case even I'm leaning towards the side of caution. No need to be there too early. 5:45pm (4 hr 20 min to int flight) sets you up for a nice relaxed start to an exciting trip.

wow damn, didn't expect that.

There's also a flight that lands at 4:50pm as well as another option. Allows 5hr 20 mins. Does that seem extreme?
Doesn't seem extreme, always good to have more time up the sleeve to be on the safe side of things.

On my upcoming QF to QF dom to int transfer at SYD all on the same PNR, QF has changed the schedules several times and I now have a 1 hour 40 minute transit. I'm just going with it. If QF stuff up a WP on a paid J fare, well, VA recently gave me a status match and haven't disappointed me yet on my flights with VA this year. QF on the other hand have been consistently delayed and I haven't even dared check a bag. So let's just say QF better not muck up this dom to int transit.

As others have said, I’d be going on the earliest as if you get delayed for what ever reason and miss your international flight no one except you is going to care that you didn’t get to Sydney on time.

I have a BNE to MEL to SIN flight coming up, that one will be tight transiting 1 hr 20 min, but is on the same ticket so should be ok as long as no cancellation from BNE

At least T1 and T2 are adjacent to each other in MEL...
Yeah

They rescheduled my MEL to SIN flight to an earlier time and originally they rebooked my BNE to MEL flight to a later flight that arrives after the MEL to SIN flight takes off 🙄

Oh was there an option to rebook to a direct BNE-SIN flight instead?

I asked but was not offered the option.

Probably because I booked J reward flights and could only get it because it was married segment via MEL

Go for more than 1:20

I would go no less than 2 at MEL

I always consider the domestic leg as a variable given the vagaries of international flying, weather, connections, medical emergencies, war diversions, pax forgetting to board and bags being offloaded not to mention the amazing engineering feat of 1,000,000s of parts performing to get the aircraft from A to B. Just roll with it and enjoy the J lounge, you've paid for it. I usually make some vegemite toast as a welcome home treat.

interested to know have you recently done many VA international to VA DOM flights?

MEL T1 to MEL T2 is easy, also on a linked PNR, more a doddle, as you dont have to approach counter at T2 as your passport has been by then swiped into QF's system in BNE and you would have BP printed on hand to use auto check to get into secure area at MEL T2.
You put your BP on to a reader and the small gate swings open, like using a Translink gocard at a Brisbane train station.
You might also be asked aside into an alcove for an initial wand test for bomb residue too, they pick group of 5s to do it.
This is prior to int sec screening.
