How much are you paying for HERTZ one day rental in SYD?

I'm asking because last year I was always able to get rates incl. of all taxes for just over $30 per day from Sydney airport for mostly A category cars (around $6 or so more for compact H or C cars). Then the rates increased steadily to first $35, then $40 and now I find it very hard to book a one day A cat. rental incl the airport fees and taxes for less than $50.

And I've tried pretty much all the codes available to me. When you leave the CDP field empty I even get quotes of up to $80 for an A or B category car with OZ residency. That's outrageous. Is anyone actually paying this much for their rental car? I can't believe that they almost doubled their rates in the current climate but then again, some days there are no cars available from HERTZ at all.

The best deal was when British Midland had the double points Hertz deals and booking it via the BMI website using their CDP was really the cheapest option I could find (consistently around $30 per day). But now these rates have gone up to the same as if you book on the Australian site without the CDP. :(

Now Avis was offering $33 rentals and I find it hard to justify to pay almost $20 more for HERTZ cars even though I'm a Presidents Circle member. Most often I can get a 1 category upgrade anyway by using various codes, so the benefit is not really that great.

When are you trying to book. Certain dates/days will always be at a premium.

I'm paying $38 for a corolla ex-MEL (three day rental, paying only for two = $75) but tha'ts in late November.

Hertz seem to be generally pricey at the moment - trying in Europe Avis gives me 3 days / EU105, Hertz same class = EU 375!!!

Well, I generally don't book this far ahead but I just checked a few dates in November for MEL and all I"m getting is $60+ rates per day for a Corolla. This was for weekend rates and during the week it's more like $70 per day.

I've tried no CDP as well as NRMA and other CDPs I have but not much luck. Can you duplicate your booking at the same rate now? Maybe there's something wrong with my cache and they automatically charge me more for being a PC member ...

Quote using QFF CDP# is indeed $140 (pickup Fri 20/11 and ret 22/11)

Same price using opther CDPS - guess November is busy......

I think Brisbane is over $60 / day now even from the CBD location. Prices definitely have gone up.

I have noticed strange price increases and decreases on the Prius.
On the corporate rate (reduced CDW, etc) it comes at around $55 for a day (usually only hire for one day). However the last couple of months it increased to about $85 a day and now it is back to about $52. (out of SYD), which is about $2 more than a Yaris.
Very strange.

Yes I have not been able to get Hertz to price <$75 in the last couple of months. I have rented an Avis car for ~$42/day end of June and twice in July.

No big deal though as both Avis and Hertz earn 1,000 VS Flying Club miles per rental....

Tiger Airways offers good Hertz rates, I picked up a 5 day rental last month for $24 per day all up, just a Corolla hatch. Last March they also had a deal for $19 rentals, for a 6 day hire

Indeed, if you link to Hertz from their Singapore site you get some good deals. I found a cheap rate a few months back that even combined with the pay for two, get three days offer.

The link from the Australian Tiger page is not nearly as generous.

Sorry, to revive my own thread again. Just noticed that with my AAA CDP the rate for a one day rental from SYD have jumped another 30% since last month. I just get prices of $75 now for one day incl taxes. What's wrong with Hertz?

Can anyone share any good CDP codes which give a one day rate out of SYD for around or less than A$50 now? I think the car rental rates are going nuts here in Australia!!!

The tiger airways rates are pretty good. Linked to from here.

~$50 for a Yaris, $60 for a Corolla, $70 for a Full Size.

There are a few more better CDPs out there, but most of them aren't public...

With Hertz, one of the T&C's with booking is that you may be asked to prove your country of presence at the time of booking a car.

They obviously don't like people "country" shopping with various car rates. Whether it's enforced or not, I have no idea....

Massive staff cut backs
Fleet getting older and older
Lack of prestige vehicles in overseas locations
Charging more to rent a C300 Merc than a Caddy Escalade
High Prices to boot!

Since 2001 I and a bad rental experience, I have always said "It HURTS to rent from HERTZ"

Yes I have had a few bad experiences, and lots of good ones!

They are the best of a bad bunch for me when renting overseas and they have the fleet choice that I like!

However, I have been getting cars with 60,000km+ on it at times and I don't enjoy that when I am paying a premium with them instead of most of the other rental companies which are cheaper.

Well, I'm not sure about you but if I follow those links the total for a Yaris comes to $68.88 per day incl. all fees. It's around $7 cheaper than my AAA CDP but still over $19 more than what I was paying just last month.

I think I have to start looking at another rental company. AVIS was no use in Australia and I got terrible treatment as a frequent renter. I'm quite happy with my Hertz President's Circle treatment. Would any other company here in Australia match that status....maybe Europcar if they have any similar scheme?

Actually, I always find Hertz one of the cheaper major car rentals from SYD airport.

I have been consistently getting just under $60 for my 1 day Corolla Automatic rental, and I have 5 rentals all the way to early next year on this rate. Whereas everytime I look through Avis/Thrifty/Europcar I ended getting at least $80 or much more.

Of course I included AAA NRMA members discount code for my rental as well (and yes I am NRMA member) when using Hertz, but still can get 1700 BMI Destination Miles out of it. Too bad BMI has switched to Europcar as new partners.

Well, I've given up now on Hertz. Can't justify to spend $72 on a one day rental car plus as pointed out BMI now has Europcar as their preferred partner. So, I'll ditch my Presiden'ts Circle status next year and move to Europcar where I'm getting $55 rates right now using our corporate code.

Too bad that prices have gone up so much, I generally had some very nice upgrades with Hertz (usually triple category upgrade)...will certainly miss that now...

For Europcar as BMI partner, there has been extensive experiences where Europcar Australia are refusing to credit points to BMI and states that they can only credit points on Virgin Blue Velocity scheme. Makes it hard for all of us crediting points on BMI account.
