Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Travel roughly twice per month for work, regularly two sectors per trip. Anywhere in Aus and NZ. With one trip to Tinian and return late last year.
Havn't added up the total sectors. Cheapest fare booked with in reason, but points upgrades are good. Have never had a paid J fair.
On top of this I operate the company aeroplane for roughly five hundred hours per year.

this got me thinking, so I checked my rolling 12 months. 21 Domestic flights (one day I flew BNE - ROK - MKY - BNE), and 6 international. So 27 all up.
all flights were with QF except one on EK CHC - SYD, and all bar 3 were revenue Fares, almost all were in J .
now if I hadn't checked, I would have confidently said i maybe flew 1015 times last year......

That should read 10-15 times. (Very late edit) :)

I flew 103 domestic flights for work and 12 for leisure last year. That was fairly consistent for the last 5 years. A role change for me at work has seen my flying reduced and am currently only a 10 flights for calendar year to date, all for work.

I'm 100% self funded and from memory did 150+ flights in 2016.

But I cheat as I look for the longest ways to get to my destinations....

32 or 35 flights in 2016 calendar year. Some domestic, two trips to North America. All bar LAX-ATL-LAX were self-funded.

I flew 23 international and 7 domestic last year (75% pointy end).
This year i have 26 international and 13 domestic (66% pointy end) flown/booked for the year.
As I was slow to uptake the wealth of knowledge available on this site I probably won't get to LTG.
But it doesn't matter as it won't be too long before I will need to have my meals served mashed up
and will be too crooked to fly anyhow so status won't mean much except it has been fun chasing it.

So far this year I'm up to 12 segments, 8 dom 4 intl, all in Y except for one short-haul dom segment that I upgraded with points. Nothing booked yet for the rest of the year but I'll probably end up with 15-20 (last year I managed 25).

Most of my travel is domestic, and most of it is for leisure or visiting family - my job isn't currently very high travel but I do go to the occasional conference or training.

Each year is different for me - depends on what job I am doing and budget. Have been averaging 100 or so for the past few years, and this year promises to be the biggest (I hope) of all time for me - will probably do between 150 and 200. Half long haul and half teeny "domestic" stuff. But am starting to look forward to much less - for five years solid (2003-2007) I did ZERO, and am rapidly getting to a mental place where I want that again.

As far as the distinction between "self-funded' and not, I beg to argue that when you do about 400,000km in a year, the specific funding is irrelevant. it is your body and soul that truly pays.

I fly between 80-90 flights per year, self funded for work between OOL-SYD
Usually flying on the cheapest possible fare due to self funding.
Average flight costs are around $47-48 over the whole year by chasing the big sales and hoping for the best during school holidays.

I typically rack up circa 80 sectors a year for about the last 10 or so years. The lowest I can recall was in 2013 (I think) at roughly 40 and the highest was 2015 at about 115.

My trips are mostly short haul dom and int with the occasional long haul int (leisure) thrown in for sanity. I do often laugh at some of the miles covered by some on here (extensive), whereas my miles are short but often excruciatingly long. I can recall one commute to work taking about 52 hours to cover 1500 miles and included the following modes of travel ... walking a goat track (limited), taxi (under 5km), hire care (about 15km), rail (1.5 hours), bus (15 minutes or so), fixed wing (1 jet sector + 2 prop sectors), rotary wing (1/2 hour) and private car (about 15 minutes). Certainly beats sitting in an office chair (which is what I'm doing right now).

April-May for me looks very ugly, although some might be jumping with joy, but its looking like just on 32 legs and 60,000 + miles. I thought I might make the magical 3,000,000 by end 2018 but might make it end this year. Then retire!!!!

I'm approx 50 - 60 but I'll have to check. Self funded unfortunately.

leadman - just checked your flight tracker. to say that it looks impressive is an understatement..

Thanks, driven by two factors; that there is no demand for my skills in OZ any more (primary metallurgy) and I got knocked back for expat in SIN and HGK many years ago as my daughter has Down's. (But boy does she enjoy travelling, her travels are quite impressive too)
