No CCs for me, ever. But I've had my FlyBuys card from day one, approximately $100k on it over the past few years and I am only 5000 points away from a cheese toaster sandwich maker! If it wasn't for these type of generous loyalty programs I don't know what would motivate to get out of bed each day...

Which one of those cards would you guys rate as the best for earning points? (Qantas of course, took the AMEX velocity for the bonus points plus $0 fees)

Applied for another one. The lure of 1.9% balance transfer for 15 months is too enticing.

They're all different. For Qantas points...
DJ Amex best for Supermarkets/Petrol station at 2.25ppd
ANZ/NAB/CBA/Westpac Amex (whichever the top level Qantas card is) best for general spend where Amex is accepted and surcharge isn't too high at 1.5ppd
Woolworths Qantas/Bankwest Qantas Plat best for general spend where Amex is not accepted or has a high surcharge at 1ppd

You need to review your spending patterns to determine which of those or which combination is best for you :)

You and your balance transfers ;) I'm guessing that one came from a place that starts with Citi and ends with Bank?

Where do I begin

Bankwest Platinum MC
CBA Diamond MC/Amex
Woolies EDR
Virgin Flyer
28 Degrees
Amex Platinum Reserve
Amex Gold Charge
Amex Eng Aust Gold
St George Vertigo

I think thats it.

I have not had an issue applying for credit cards and being accepted by the various credit card providers.
Just a word of warning to anyone cancelling/consolidating/cutting up cards close to retirement, especially if you will be drawing a pension from an SMSF. I thought I would simplify life when I wound up my small business, so I cancelled the card I had been using specifically for business expenses, and another that I found I used infrequently. (I wasn't tuned in to collecting points at that stage.) So I ended up with just one credit card with what seemed like a reasonable limit (ANZ Visa Rewards for the SQ link) and one debit card.

Intent on reducing outgoings and perhaps save on the annual fee, I applied for a BankWest zero account fee card and was knocked back. Because my SMSF pension was paid directly into ING Savings Maximizer it didn't appear on my bank statement, and super pensions are not included in one's taxable income. Even with 12 months' worth of ING statements showing the regular monthly pension payments that income was totally disregarded. Income from other sources that was included in my tax assessment fell short of their criteria. In the end I was glad they knocked me back because their service was appalling. Failed to return phone calls, communications between staff members were minimal, and they left me over a couple of weeks without telling me my application was going nowhere.

Thanks to this forum, my eyes have been opened and I've become interested in earning points via credit card as best I can now. I doubt if it's worth my while applying for another card elsewhere, but I have at least done what I should have done ages ago and added the ANZ Amex to the Visa, and am actively seeking ways to use it in preference to Visa. Pity the ANZ transfer rate is so poor.

A sad cautionary tale, but I hope it may prevent someone else from making a similar mistake.

Given you have both Select and Signature, am I right in assuming Sig goes to QF?

Sure did. ;)

The one I have my eyes on is the HSBC Qantas card with 20,000 QFF points and 0% balance transfer for 6 months. Need wait for the suitable moment.

Sorry; misread your post. Both Citi cards go to SQ. Only earn QF from EDR and Jetstar.

Ah, OK. In that case, I'm curious as to why you'd have 2 SQ-earning cards from the same bank with one having a lower earn rate. Doesn't really hedge your bets in anyway. What's the purpose?

When Select is full, I use Sig. Better (for me) to have 40 interest free days on Sig than to reload the Select. Of course, YMMV.
Finally, the Sig is free for life, so if and when the Select gets the scissor treatment I still have a ppd card earning in to SQ.

That makes much more sense now that I understand your Citi Sig is free. Would be a bit crazy spending $1095 in annual fees for that and the Select!
