How long will SQ hold onto checked bags on a layover?

I've searched around a bit and can't find an answer to my question so I'm wondering if someone here can help.

I'm booking LHR-SIN-MEL and we ideally want to have a 24 hr layover, to break up the flight for the benefit of our 4 year old's temper and the sanity of his parents.

I can see layovers of 12 or so hours, which is fine for getting a nap at the transit hotel but I'm not sure if it's enough of a break (assume we're not in a rush to get home to Melbourne.)

Adding a Stopover to a redemption would mean that we need to collect our checked lugagge, which seems like a major PITA for a 24 hr layover.

Is there any way we can get SQ to check the bags through to MEL while we head to the city for a night? Or is the only way to have a break that long is to class it as a Stopover and collect all our luggage and drag it around with us?

TIA

Make sure that you scroll down to see all of the flights on the search engine. There should be layovers over 24 hours.

Smarte Carte has left luggage facilities at all Changi terminals. It still means you have to wait at the carousel for luggage to arrive and take it through immigration (and check in again for your onwards flight) but at least you wouldn't have to take your luggage outside the terminal.

When you search you should see options for just under 24hrs transit, I've seen 23hrs55min.

Is that long enough? Then SQ just hang onto your luggage

Yes I have had layovers of almost 24 hours with SQ and bags always just checked through.

Going to Europe we often try and fly during the day for both flights and get a good night's sleep in a hotel.

We especially do this is flying g in F/R, to make the most of the luxury.

But also in J we find it a much better way to travel to Europe.

Thanks for this... Out of interest, do you typically stay airside at the transit hotels? Or do you head landside to one of the nearby hotels?

personally with 2 little ones we just goto crown plaza which is connected to T3 however it is landside. then spend a few hours in jewel

With longer time always landside. I have only down airside when I have had a shortish layover and purely went in for a quick sleep.

Yes young ones would love the free light show that is in Jewel.

Anything < 24 hours is fine for SQ to SQ transfers at SIN for baggage through check, even if that transfer is overnight. I did hear that SQ will accept through-check baggage for up to 48 hour transits in SIN from SQ to SQ but I have not seen this in action to date in a live scenario personally so I can't vouch for it.

Last year we stayed at the in-airport Crowne Plaza. Very nice hotel and if you have any IHG status, you'll probably get an upgrade. The restaurant was getting overhauled and looked a bit ordinary, but Jewel is directly accessible on foot next to the hotel where there are heaps of restaurants.

The CP is overpriced but that’s normal for most airport hotels, I would head downtown for a better choice of hotels, unless your an avgeek keen to get some plane spotting in.
