How long until you get to LTP? (Or are you already there ^_~)

Anyone with less than 40,000 status credits is literally better off STOPPING with Qantas, and crediting ALL their flights to BAEC.
You can earn 35,000 TP with BA (which earns lifetime Oneworld Emerald) faster by starting from ZERO, than it is starting from 40,000 status credits with QF in order to attain lifetime Oneworld Emerald.

QF Emerald is hands down the most difficult (by a factor of 2x) Oneworld lifetime Emerald to attain.

Qantas has 100% lost the plot. It has to be a political move.

This topic is interesting because literally, every possible reason for introducing LTP at 75K is a disaster.

Potential reasons for setting it at 75K

1) "We only want 100 LTP so xx,xx_ is where it needs to be to keep the numbers small"..........????????

2) Perhaps QF is setup where QF pays QF Loyalty for status members. Qantas needs better negotiators..!!!

3) To shut the members up and stop them for asking. No logic or reasoning aside to stop people asking......???!?!??!? rly??

4) xx_x members will spend-up in order to achieve LTP. If you're already at 50K+ status credits you're more than likely already committed to flying Qantas for some other reason that does not include status credits. Or your company is paying for your flights. Either way, how much MORE business could you possibly give QF in order to have 75K be a target that would drive a change in behaviour? Let's say that number is massively optimistic at 100 members. Why the media fanfare for a benefit that affects so few members? Qantas could quietly introduce the benefit and call each of those 100 members to tell them. 99.99% of members will never achieve, nor consider LTP is an option, and yet it's one of the hero changes of the 'overhaul'. The number of members who are LTG and between 14,000-60,000 status credits who were asking for LTP now see the 75K figure and are instantly disconnected. They'll never achieve it, and so instead of setting the bar at a target level that members can internally accept as a fair and reasonable number (40k? 50k?) - the new 75K bar is soo high that instead of having the alluring effect on the 14,000-60,000 sc members - it has alienated their business in a heartbeat. These are the same members who were ALREADY disconnecting BECAUSE there was nothing to strive for after LTG.

The benefit to Qantas here is...... maybe a few members spend more, but how much more can QF realistically extract? If you have 60K+ status credits - you are not splitting business between 2 or 3 airlines. Near 100% share of wallet will ALREADY be going to QF.

The downside for Qantas is the MUCH LARGER number of members who have 14,000+ status credits and headroom remaining to increase their share of wallet with QF. Who now, don't give a cough.

Overall - my prediction is that lifetime platinum will cost the company instead of bringing in any material gain.

The best and most logical reason I can fathom is that it's a political stunt.

I’ve just passed the mark for LTS.

@trippin_the_rift if I’m reading post #31 correctly, are you saying I should immediately start crediting BAEC?

If you can fly 4 BA sectors a year and plan to hit lifetime Emerald then it's the best of the pack right now.
BA isn't everyone's cup of tea. There's a bunch of folks on here who have switched that are more clued up than me. Our esteemed moderator JessicaTam is an excellent person to begin hassl...uhh.. speaking with! ;)

We do head to the UK about every 2 years so that might be a plan. I could do SYD-SIN a couple of times aswell possibly?
Definitely might have to hass...uhh.. chat with Jessica about this or perhaps she might be kind enough to give us a basic run down on the program

I'm about a zillion years away but if I recall correctly, I'm sure that I read that at least one person here has already amassed the 75,000 SCs!

Congratulations to you if you have!!!

If no one has qualified, lets see who gets there first!!!

Off topic a little I made the switch to BA four and a half years ago and hit GFL just over month ago,

On topic it would take me over nine years at current travel patterns to get to LTP, but those patterns will change and hopefully business travel will drop off altogether in the short term, so it is never for me.

I'm >1/3 the way to 75,000SC, but have zero interest in acquiring LTP through QFF or any other airline.

I'll just keep on doing what I've done for the past 15 years and maintain WP with QFF whilst flying the majority of our flights via awards with QF. We've now heavily invested with KF miles so most of the really long haul stuff will be done in a lovely SQ suite via KF awards.

If can you maintain OWE with leisure travel ..... LTP is kinda worthless.

I’m at 16k LT. I’ll have to retain P1 for the next 16 years to reach LTP. Which is doable if DSC promos stick around and mistake fares still exist!

I guess the old saying “if you don’t fly enough to earn the status, you don’t need the status” rings true.

I have around 58k SCs to get LTP. Not accounting for odd years like this year, where I went 600 SCs over my requal threshold, I need to keep my flying/SC rate up for another 48 years for LTP.

I might just start putting some money aside for (more) champers in my retirement and maybe get some large posters of the Sydney FLounge made, so I can pretend I'm dining there. :D

Save for the view, the food isn't as good as it used to be, and it's getting busier too. Might be easier to get a VR recording made and just eat at home with some Oculus goggles on your head ;)

A mate of mine pinged me yesterday on the new LTP 75K SC threshold. My sense is with the introduction of the new LTP level QF are acknowledging they messed up the original LTS 7K and LTG 14K and pegged them way too low.

I’ll start lobbying for a new LTP1 level for you now :)

At my current level of travel I "could" get there in around 12 years.

I have had enough of work flying and am planning to cut back and will be happy just scraping over the 1200 SC mark. I would like to used last of my QF points by the time I fall from P1 (Aug 20). I am using VA more domestically as it seems that the pricing get through the business portal and VA's constant stream of 30% discount on domestic J fares VA J pricing is not that much more than QF Y.

I may be in a similar situation to as @amaroo my KF miles are heading north at a pretty good rate.

So when do I think I would achieve QF LTP - never. :)

Well, they have had 18 years to rethink these levels, and have apparently elected not to do so. and from one with 31K LTSC's, may I say I find your attitude just at bit unsufferable.

I hit QFF Lifetime Gold in early 2006. My Lifetime SC count is now 14,270. So not much progress towards Lifetime Platinum with QFF. However, I am only about 150K EQM off Lifetime Platinum with AAdvantage. I think one is much more achievable.
