Does anyone know how long it will take for cancelled award seats to be back on the market?

As per get me outta here’s post, award seats may never go back into inventory once cancelled. They may go back as general seats, for sale, or depending on the airline, they could go to someone on the waiting list.

Always preferable to change a booking rather than cancel, if possible.

Sometimes immediately, sometimes never. Have experienced both.

Thanks all. I have an award booking from MNL to YVR via NRT but now I'm thinking of staying a couple of nights in Japan. If i change the NRT - YVR leg it wikl cancel the whole booking since it's a married segment. I'm hoping if I do it over the phone they can change my flight and still book me in for MNL - NRT on the orignal flight date/time.

Give them a call and try. I may be that the married segments have changed since you booked. The agent will be able to advise of your options.
