How long does it take for a Vietnam visa?

Can anyone give me any information about how long it generally takes between applying online for a visa to Vietnam and the visa coming through?

I'm thinking of a possible last-minute trip later this year and I'm wondering just how last-minute I can make it...

My personal experience is 4 days from application and payment to granting. But not sure if that’s normal or not. This was in Dec 2024. I opted not to wait to last minute. There’s an expedited pay more option if really pressed. I read up at the time on the web it’s variable.

You’ll need to use the online website. Try blogging for it as things might have changed since I last applied as it had changed to a new one about the time I was ready to apply. I’d plan in early Aug for Dec trip. You’ll need to sign up for an account. There was lots of helpful explanations on the web from others which helped me a lot.

For my travel party members with US passports the Vietnamese evisa process has been taking about 4-8 days to get back an approval. Anything less than 7-8 days has been a gamble regardless of how close to booked date of travel we mentioned. But this was primarily during December 2024, January 2025, December 2025 and January 2026.

About a week for me last August. I applied on a Sunday and it came through overnight Friday. Flight departure was Saturday afternoon....

Possibly, I cut it a bit fine.
