How long do you keep status?

I've looked around a lot for these answers, so sorry if they are really obvious.
If my membership aniversary was August, and I moved up to the next status level in July, do I slip back down when the membership anniversary arrives a month later?

It seems if so that you would really need a lot of flights early in the membership year to obtain some benefits.

i presume too that if you are at a certain status level, book a flight requesting an upgrade, then slip down tiers before the flight occurs, your chance of the upgrade goes down too?

Will the number of points you receive slip down too ie would you get the 50% extra points for a silver member because you booked at that tier, or would they go down if you end up flying at bronze?

No.

If your anniversary is August 31 and you achieve a given status level on *say* September 10, you keep it for almost two years.

Points will depend on your status at the time you fly, not at the time you book.

Upgrade process is a dog's breakfast and anything is possible.

Nope, you keep your status for the whole of the following membership year. So in your case, July the year after you first earn the status.

Not entirely sure about the other questions, but I think you're right in assuming you lose all the privileges that come with status even if you booked before going down.

In my experience the number of points/status credits is determined by your membership tier when you fly, not when you book.
