How far do you go to keep fit while travelling?

I have done figure skating since I was a child (I think I mentioned this in another fitness-related thread). I take my ice skates with me wherever I travel. I have this bucket list going on, of places and/or particular ice rinks I want to skate at in my lifetime. Have skated in some truly spectacular places. Let's call it fitness and sightseeing all in one

Side note: there was a time when I would always pack my skates in my carry on, but these days, not every country allows that because, well, they're blades after all!

Very cool! Not everyone shares my opinion, but I think exploring new places is enhanced when it also involves some form of exercise.

I totally agree! When I stay at the DT-CNS, they usually give me a water view, 6th floor HH room with balcony. In keeping with your philosophy, I always use the stairs to access the bottle shop on the ground floor and then, without a moment of hesitation, I climb those 6 flights again ... but that's not the half of it, I do it with a 4 pack of G&T's under the arm to partake in some R&R on the balcony whilst watching all those dedicated souls jogging the park below! Ahh, the serenity!

Love it!
My kind pf fitness ... though in the past year have become a gymgoer, and enjoying it, so will need to consider some of these options in future travel.
I like the idea of partaking in the joy of travel without the worry of weight gain!

I used to run a lot with the Nike Run Club in Auckland and in Sydney. Whenever I land, I check to see if they have a local run club (only in the big cities). Rock up in my run club t-shirt with AKL and the staff and people are all super friendly. They also know the best routes!

i tend to walk a lot every day so the exercise is built into most of my holidays.

remember a couple of years ago when i took a friend to tokyo for the first time he was banging on my apartment door the first morning before 7am and by the time we got back around 10pm my google fit app has us just a ta under 30KM of walking. My feet agreed with that assessment and I was wishing we were in Thailand so I could get a nice foot massage.

Bali trips are the near opposite when it's reading by the pool or on the beach and only a few KMs of walking each day.

Actively using my Apple Watch has motivated me to up my movement regardless of whether or not I am travelling. Getting me to move hourly, stand every 30 minutes, track my resting and recovery heart rate and save my routes and daily step counts has been awesome.

It is amazing how I can boost my step count by transiting through airports....HKG and SIN are favourites....sometimes I can clock up 3000-5000 steps alone if I get 'good' transfer gates from and to.

I love going on holidays to 'get fit' - I find all the extra walking does wonders for my waistline. Several years ago, living in Sydney and spending a lot of time in the office (and not enough time exercising) I had blown to about 15-17kg over my optimal weight. I managed to drop the spare tyre (completely) in a six week stint spent walking around Florence. I wish I had've had a phone with a health app back then, would love to know the distances I was covering each day. Certainly several hours walking a day though. Came back home with a very dark tan and a heap of baggy clothes!

Like many others have posted, I try and do a lot of walking where possible when on holidays. Not only is it good exercise, it is a nice way to see a city and get your bearings.

This post reminded me that I used to walk with the Hash House Harriers in POM. I found the Wednesday group was a pretty social team and it gave a great opportunity to see areas of POM you otherwise would not.
