Hi,
My wife and I are flying to Queenstown in August.
From experience, could anyone suggest a good time to buy tickets ?
I know nothing is set in concrete with airlines and also that there are only 12 seats in the front cabin on the direct flights.

We go every other year or so. I normally wait for the QF NZ specials. Easier to get cheap CHC and AUK fares than it is ZQN sadly.

Ta for that - the extra leg eg ZQN-AKL adds some time and no J available.

To be honest, I doubt there will be any good sales on the BNE-ZQN route as QF generally charges a premium for this flight. I'd personally look at purchasing a sale fare on the direct BNE-CHC flight, and doing the short hop from CHC to ZQN in Y on Air NZ. BNE-CHC flights in J are currently available for $549 on certain dates.

If you have any Qantas points though, I've found that there's generally plenty of J availability on the BNE-ZQN flight.

I would second this!

BNE > CHC on QF has some great J specials on at the moment ( although I don't believe they include August 2017).
I've never flown Directly into ZQN from Australia due to the consistently high prices due to the premium nature of the destination.
Unfortunately, I have had to do AKL > ZQN on a seperate sector with JQ to make flying into ZQN affordable.

For the Ekka week ? ;)

I doubt there's any good time to book them. Taking advantage of that public holiday week for some skiing is a pretty common thing.

Ta for all the responses .
The travel days are saturday or sunday and i can't change them as the family are coming also.
Economy fares are currently round $400 odd and business above $900 on QF so may need to try VA or NZ.
