Have a flight from Syd to Perth in J in a few weeks.

I arrive into Sydney on the train from out of town about 11am and my flights isn't until 7.45pm that evening.

Am I going to be able to use the automated bag drop that early? With liquids etc - I don't particularly want to have to clear security with my main bag.

I rang Qantas and wasn't exactly confident in their answer. The Qantas support person was simply looking up the website for the answer (which i had already done).

The web talks about check in opening 3 hours before - but I will have already checked in on my mobile and simply want to bag drop.

Anyone have experience with this?

If your flight is open then you should be able to use the automated bag drop. Worse case and you go to the bag drop queue.

I do vaguely recall someone mentioned you can use the check in kiosks around 6 hours before flight so that limitation may be there for the automated bag drop too.

When I did this recently I had to use a check in counter - couldn't use the kiosk until I think 3 (maybe 4) hours before the flight. A quick google suggests there are varied answers for bag drop.. some say 6-7 hours like the previous poster. I think I checked in about 5-6 hours early m yself.

One answer on Facebook claims "Same day" which the official qantas reply then agreed to.. so that's a good sign it may be correct (new user so can't post the link, probably not hard to google though)

Welcome to AFF, lathiat. Great to see a first post that provides some information. You'll find a lot of that here.

Perhaps you could introduce yourself more formally in the Introductions thread.
