An excellent stay in Hanoi. The hotel is located further away from the Old Quarter, which we preferred as it was quieter and it was a short (depending on traffic) Grab into the city anyway.

The hotel is very new, and the rooms are excellent. Note that the bathroom is surrounded by translucent glass so you can see silhouettes of people inside.

We got a double upgrade, but I can’t figure out what the difference to the base room is. The staff said that the furnishings are nicer, and it’s on a higher floor and slightly bigger, but it looks the same in pictures to me…

The EL is excellent. Very quiet when we went (EL staff said that they don’t get huge numbers in the lounge, presumably because many people are out during the day). We didn’t have breakfast there, but afternoon tea is a selection of cakes and the like, and there’s a pretty decent buffet for coughtail hour. It probably isn’t enough for a full dinner, though. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the drinks menu, but there’s a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, with sparkling wine on free pour.

Breakfast in the main restaurant was great, a good selection with barista coffee available. We were out early every day so it was a mostly in-and-out affair, and we didn’t visit at peak so I’m not sure about the crowding.

The staff were super friendly, if a bit new - there were quite a few trainees and a few things needed to go through a manager.

Overall I highly recommend this hotel, with the caveat that it’s not actually in the Old Quarter or walkable to much.

I think these type of upgrades where the room is physically the same, but a higher floor and some better amenities. Eg, perhaps a robe and slippers. Pod coffee machine instead of instant etc.

Property: Mercure Kyoto Station
Room booked: Twin Superior
Room upgraded/type: Yes, to Twin Privilege
Rate: Accor Plus Fully Flexible
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes, via the Accor app. An ordinary selection.
Early check in/late out: No early check-in, had to leave bags and go out for an hour or two until 3pm. Didn't need late check-out.
VIP treatment: A small box of assorted rice cracker things, with non-personalised welcome note.
Access to executive lounge (if existing): Had to push for Privilege Room benefits but was given daily passes for the Executive Lounge proxy of finger food and a decent selection of alcoholic drinks from ~2-5pm in the restaurant each day.
General comments: There are a lot of negative comments about the interior design of this hotel but I really liked the moody decor and fit out. It's fairly new too so everything works well. The $100 steak in the restaurant was amazing, although I probably would've swerved it without the Accor+ discount For a 'station hotel' though it wasn't really that close - still a 10 min walk from the platforms so a little awkward with luggage.

A lovely resort stay at Phu Quoc. They have a lounge for check-in, but it doesn’t serve food in normal EL style. It looks more like an area used for events.

Check-in was excellent, they have a free shuttle bus to the airport and had gotten our original room ready for us at 10.30am. No upgrade originally as we had booked the highest room with twin beds, but upon checking in we were proactively offered a better room if we didn’t mind a king bed instead, which we accepted (hence the slightly longer wait for the room to be ready).

The room itself was lovely, the cabanas are a bit further out from the main building so they were quiet - not that the main pool was noisy by any means.

Note that the cabanas don’t actually connect to the main pool, rather, they have their own mini pools shared by 3-4 units. These pools were shallower and slightly cooler, and very private and well-maintained.

The bathrooms were huge, with double sinks and a jacuzzi. Shower pressure was good, although the ceiling rain shower was a fair bit weaker than the hand shower. Also, the jacuzzi filled extremely slowly, but it was a nice touch and the jets were strong.

Status recognition was also superb, with a lovely welcome gift:

And a complimentary set of evening canapés:

They come with a bottle of sparkling, but we don’t really drink, so they offered us a pick of any drink from the menu instead, which I thought was a nice gesture.

As mentioned above, we also got extra drink vouchers for each night we spent at the resort, and 300k VND (~$20) per person off a spa treatment.

The resort itself was also very nice, with a huge swimming pool and a private beach. We never had to wait for poolside chairs, although it wasn’t peak tourist season so I’m not sure how crowded it gets then.

Breakfast was excellent, with options like fresh noodle soup, barista coffee, a wide variety of food, fresh fruit and ice cream. Platinums could also opt for a la carte breakfast in a separate restaurant, which we didn’t try.

All of the in-house restaurants accept Accor Plus, and prices are very reasonable even before discounts.

The hotel is around 30 mins from Phu Quoc town itself, but they run a daily shuttle bus to/from the town and the nearby shopping mall.

Overall I highly recommend this resort - the only issue is getting to Phu Quoc!
