Property: Movenpick on Spencer, Melbourne

Welcome drink: 2 bottles of water in room

I came across this new hotel when looking for a place to stay for this years Australian Open. They had a great offer at the time, $250 per night including daily breakfast, 2 coughtails and Movenpicks delicious ice cream parfait.

A few days before my arrival, I received a call from the hotel asking if I need parking. I let them know I would by flying down from Sydney on an early flight, and that the plan was to drop my bags off and return for check-in later in the afternoon. Well, I arrived at the hotel at 10AM to drop off my bags and was told they had a room ready for me. Unexpected, but a great start to the trip.

I really enjoyed this hotel. It opened late last year, so everything is looking very new. The downstairs lobby area is beautiful, particularly between 3:30-4:30 for 'happy hour' where guests can indulge in free sweets and ice cream. The pool was a welcome treat after hours in the scorching heat. Breakfast was decent, with the Holiday Saver package including tea/coffee, a juice, any item from the a la carte menu + sides, a bowl of fruit and a bowl of pastries. Thanks for this review! Mostly this thread feels like the hotels to avoid thread but this one looks nice and their suites look incredible !

Has anyone stayed at Pullman on the Park in Melbourne recently after their renovations?

Also interested in a review but don’t have high hopes!

Just checked on prices for a mid-week room, Luxury room, flexible rate for 17th Feb at $269. Not a bad rate

Had just checked out from there this morning. Stayed for three nights starting last Saturday, which was also when they reopened to the public.

Mixed feelings to be honest...... Contemplating whether I should share with them some feedback.

Did you happen to take a photo of the menu by any chance? I'm staying again next week, this time as a Platinum, and was wondering what the breakfast options might be.

Property - Novotel Geelong

platinum via fast track

welcome gift - yes - bottle of bubbles(swapped for a bottle of red) and a freckle berry! Stayed 3 nights and received another red and a freckle berry the second night. Lots of water. Upgraded to suite 722 which was ideal as we could watch the Geelong70.3 half ironman event - we were down to babysit the granddaughter while mum and Aunty competed in it

Old hotel that been renovated. Good bathrooms. Good breakfast - buffet back. Good coffee. Staff were largely excellent. First world problem - they ran out of Mumm Champagne (‘supply’ issues) so we couldn’t celebrate the girls finishing the Ironman largely intact.

matt the night guy was excellent

Another lovely 2nt stay to report at the new Movenpick - my first at this property since hitting ALL Platinum. Everything was going smoothly at the front desk, where the friendly Kapa mentioned she'd upgraded me to a Superior Room. After coding my keys, she then asks if I'd like to join their loyalty program.. err.. WHAT. Turns out my corporate TA didn't attach my ALL number to the booking, despite it being listed on the e-ticket they sent me. (not the first time it's happened and I need to raise it with them next week)

I hand over my membership card while another front desk staff member, Blaire Shin, pulls Kapa over to huddle around her computer briefly. They come back after a few moments and say "we note your preference for a higher floor, but we could upgrade you to a suite available on the 1st floor if you'd like it? Otherwise we could keep you in the Superior Room on Level 6". You don't need to guess what my answer was. While Kapa sorted out different room keys and a drink voucher, Blaire Shin dashes off and returns with some small chocoolate cakes in lieu of a welcome gift and apologises as they would usually leave a card and drinks in the room. The cakes were absolutely delicious.

During the short lift ride up to L1 I ponder what the traffic noise from Spencer St might be like, given it was a slight issue on my last stay on L6. I also wonder how big the suite would be given it's a brand new hotel and the rooms are on the smaller side in comparison with older properties. I open the door to the room and it's huge - although rather than having separate bed and living rooms it's one large space with a divider between the two.

Room 1.jpgRoom 2.jpg

There's a large TV on the wall (65-70") which can be adjusted to face either the bed or sofa, and a decent size work desk with integrated power and USB sockets. The minibar/lugagge storage area is the same as the regular rooms except there is double the space for suitcases.

Room 3.jpg

I'm not exaggerating when I say the bathroom is about the size of the entire Classic King room. It has two large basins with a long mirror running the entire left wall of the bathroom (5-6m), a freestanding bath which could easily fit two people, a shower and a toilet. The shower and toilet are behind frosted glass but without their own doors. Ventilation in the bathroom seemed to be a slight issue with the mirror fogging up after a hot shower.

Room 4.jpg

The bedding seemed identical to other rooms, overall good quality and and quite a comfortable mattress if a little on the firm side.

My only complaint would be the central air conditioning, the lowest fan setting was quite loud, certainly too noisy to leave on while sleeping. I don't recall having this issue with the smaller rooms so they might be using a more powerful unit to cover the additional floor space. On the flip side, the traffic was almost inaudible, thicker glass must have been installed on the lower floors.

Breakfast was overall excellent. It is served at Miss Mi, where they are still doing a la carte on weekdays, you get a coffee, juice, bread basket, fresh cut fruit, and a selection of main. On both occasions they offered me additional items, on the first day I also grabbed a side of hashbrowns, and on the second I got another coffee. Both the 'Miss Mi Benedict' and Nasi Goreng were delicious, and the fresh fruit was also very good.

I used my drink voucher at the bar, here were the options:

I also ordered the lamb ribs cooked in rica rica sauce, which came to $21.75 after Accor Plus single diner discount. For 6 pretty meaty ribs I thought this was excellent value. The service at the bar was also friendly and quick.

Looking forward to my next stay in a few weeks time!

How is that a suite again? Was it a wheelchair access room?

Mrs Jase has a 8 day stay at this property for work and I joined her for the weekend. Have stayed here before and no real complaints. Staff are friendly and attentive, room is comfortable and has decent views of the city and bay. A stack of really good bars and eateries at the doorstep aswell as the DFO with only a short walk to transport and Southbank with even the CBD only a shortish stroll away. Wife received a bottle of bubbly and welcome card on arrival and a couple of drinks cards. Breakfast buffet was limited but enough for my needs and was self serve. Coffee was like dishwater though.

I'm also spending a few (4) nights at this property with the family and would concur, it is a solid property/location which surprises me somewhat given South Wharf doesn't initially register as the most metropolitan Melbourne location, but it has quickly become a bit of a family favourite.

I don't normally post here as a lowly ALL/AP silver but it might help give some comparison:

Second stay at this hotel. I find the room very comfortable. Good lighting with lighting controls that are simple and easy to use. Having a table with two chairs as well as a comfortable sitting chair is great in a based room. On the third night a bottle of sparkling wine was delivered to the room wishing me a happy anniversary. MrsDaver6 wasn't with me but then I remembered we stayed here 3 years ago at the same time for a wedding anniversary. So a nice touch.

The two downsides are no swimming pool and the shower over a bath tub.

the shower over a bath tub

I will never understand this trend with newer hotels, if there isnt room for a separate shower and tub, then do a shower only. As soon as i see shower/tub combo i immediately go looking for an alternative place to stay.
