How do the SC years work?

Hi everyone

For the first time ever, it looks like I am going to hit QFF silver - I've missed it every year by 40-50 status credits. That got me thinking though about how long the silver will actually be awarded for. My 'status credit' years ends on 30th April 2013, and I expect to hit silver by around February 2013. Does this mean I will then only have the silver membership for two months until April and will need the further amount of points to retain after April?

Probably sounds like a stupid question (I'm a newbie to AFF) but I would appreciate it if someone could advise.

It will last the remainder of your membership year, plus the following year, so 14 months as cove said. Also, IIRC the SCs required to requalify for silver are 250, which is 50 less than required to initially qualify. That means that it will be easier for you to requalify again next year and in year to come (presuming you keep doing the same amount of flying).

Great thanks. Yes I don't see any problem retaining - I have always flown a lot personally (but never enough to hit silver) and just occasionally for work, but a recent move from Perth - Sydney and a new job means I will be travelling a lot very shortly.

Thanks for the advice.

That's good! Perhaps if you start flying more you could aim for gold status next year. You need 700 status credits to qualify and 600 to retain. Of course, with gold status you get lounge access, among other things. It may be something to keep in mind. If your only a little bit short, you can always do a status credit run, and in the meantime stick around AFF for tips on how to maximize status credit earnings. As a general rule, "why fly direct when you can connect?" (and earn more points and SCs) :)

I always love how basic questions on AFF about getting to one status level end up with recommendation’s, tips and tricks to get to the next status level above that :p

The 50% bonus points that you get at Silver should help a lot on longer flights, if you end up flying back to Perth regularly!

Yes I hope so - fingers crossed :) I've been reading the status credit run posts with great interest
